Plan lift-served alpine skiing at Snowbird in Utah’s Little Cottonwood Canyon, from the Snowbird Center and Creekside bases to the three main mountain sectors. Use the independent scoped map alongside current operator closures and return instructions.
044MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore the independent community map and practical starting bases. Read the coverage limits and check current opening and access with the operator.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
Unconfirmed: the operator map page is linked separately, but a current artwork edition and lawful inline preview have not been verified; no operator artwork is reproduced in this guide. Independent community linework covers conservative named main corridors in Gad Valley, Peruvian Gulch and Mineral Basin. Alta, inter-resort transfers, backcountry, extreme/expert and unresolved advanced or anonymous alignments are omitted. Community labels are not operator-verified aliases; generic grades stay grey. It is not a complete resort inventory, current opening report, boundary permission, safe connection or navigation guide.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Entry 2 serves Snowbird Center; verify Tram/Peruvian boarding and your open marked descent.
Central ticket and rental base below Hidden Peak.
Access: Entry 1 serves Creekside; choose the lift and lesson meeting point suitable for your ability.
A separate lower base and Gad Valley passenger corridors.
Access: Enter only after checking open connections and the last suitable return with staff. Alta transfers are excluded.
A mountain sector beyond Hidden Peak; its lift return is a separate planning commitment.
Use Entry 2 for Snowbird Center and its Tram/Peruvian rental base, or Entry 1 for Creekside and Gad Valley. Match your parking, equipment and lesson meeting point first. The lower-Tram pin is only an approximate community reference.
The operator distinguishes Peruvian Gulch, Gad Valley and Mineral Basin. Confirm the open marked connection and a suitable descent with staff before changing sectors; the community map does not establish a continuous circuit. Alta and conditional inter-resort transfers are excluded.
Check the last suitable lift and open marked return before entering Mineral Basin or leaving your lower base. Keep your actual parking or carrier return separate from ski connections. Road closures and Interlodge may delay departure; follow staff shelter instructions.
01 / FIELD OVERVIEW
A practical Snowbird guide to managed alpine terrain, base selection, tickets, canyon travel, avalanche closures and services, with licensed community geometry and explicit planning limits.
Little Cottonwood Canyon approach
Three sectors with separate return planning
Independent scoped ODbL map
Snowbird is an alpine ski area in Utah’s Wasatch Range, reached through Little Cottonwood Canyon. The operator identifies Peruvian Gulch, Gad Valley and Mineral Basin as its three main sectors and advertises 2,500 skiable acres, 2,900 vertical feet and more than 140 runs. These are operator area statistics, not measurements or counts derived from our community map. Hidden Peak is the high Tram destination; the two practical lower starting areas are Snowbird Center and Creekside.
The operator’s published terrain split is 8% beginner, 24% intermediate and 68% advanced/expert. That mix matters when choosing a lift: a ride uphill does not promise an easy descent. Chickadee has its own limited ticket product. Ask Mountain School or lift staff about appropriate open marked terrain and follow local signs; our grey community lines do not convert generic OSM difficulty into American trail symbols or a universal colour.
Historical: Tyson Dudley’s photograph is dated 21 December 2016 and shows a Tram cabin above snowy trees in mist. It supplies genuine archive Snowbird context, not evidence of current cabins, snow cover, visibility, grooming or opening. The independent map omits Alta, boundary transfers, backcountry and unresolved terrain; it is not the operator’s complete inventory.
Use the Aerial Tram and individual passenger-lift report as separate planning references. The rental guide associates Snowbird Center with the Tram, Peruvian and Chickadee, and Creekside with Gadzoom, Mid-Gad, Wilbere and Baby Thunder. Confirm the actual boarding point and descent before leaving your chosen base. The independent geometry may preserve community names that differ from operator wording; no capacity or duration is accepted from those tags.
Unconfirmed: Friday 27 November 2026, 09:00–16:00, is the operator’s tentative opening-day event, with terrain and lifts expressly dependent on conditions. It is not a guaranteed start or a confirmed whole-season timetable. The general mid-November-through-May description does not establish a final 2026/27 closing date. Check the actual Mountain Report before travelling.
Conflicting sources: the About page lists one Aerial Tram, ten chairlifts and three conveyors, while the Winter Lift Tickets page describes access to nine lifts, two conveyors and the Tram. Those totals are not silently reconciled here. Neither describes how many installations will operate on your day, and the scoped OSM passenger-way total is not a replacement inventory.
Unconfirmed: the inspected lift-report text has blank live totals and filter labels rather than a complete dated operating list. The shared site banner still refers to closure of the 2025/26 ski season and scenic Tram passengers; it cannot establish present 2026/27 skiing or uphill permission. Check current individual status, last boarding and sector-return instructions with staff.
The operator’s arrival address is 9385 S. Snowbird Center Dr., Snowbird, Utah 84092-9000. Road access is via SR-210 in Little Cottonwood Canyon. Its visitor guide identifies Entry 1 for Creekside, Entry 2 for Snowbird Center and Entry 4 for The Cliff Lodge. Pick the base that matches your lesson, rental and ticket collection before choosing a parking product; the approximate Tram pin does not identify every entrance.
The 2026/27 parking page distinguishes free first-come lots, paid daily reservations, valet and preferred parking. It advertises one rolling Upper Gad Valley reservation for eligible Snowbird passholders and lists that lot as reservation-only. Carpool spaces have their own posted occupancy rules. Paid reservations start at USD 30 and vary by date and lot; missed reservations are non-refundable under the posted wording. Do not assume a ski pass reserves parking or that a generic no-reservation statement covers every lot.
Conflicting sources: the general first-visit guide says parking reservations are not required for Snowbird guests, while the explicitly 2026/27 parking page requires a reservation for Upper Gad Valley. Follow the current specific lot/product instructions and confirm eligibility before departure; free first-come parking is not guaranteed availability.
Check UDOT road restrictions and the Mountain Report before entering the canyon. The operator warns that traction requirements and avalanche mitigation can restrict SR-210, including midday closures. Follow actual signs and official vehicle requirements rather than treating four-wheel drive as permission. Roadside spaces depend on daily conditions; overnight roadside and non-lodging-lot parking are prohibited in the arrival guidance.
Unconfirmed: a final 2026/27 UTA ski-bus timetable, applicable fare, exact stop, last return and airport-transfer booking are not established by the reviewed arrival page. It lists UTA Ski Bus and Alta/Snowbird Shuttle as leads, not a guaranteed connection. Confirm your travel date and return with the actual carrier. Listed accessible parking does not establish an uninterrupted step-free route or adapted lift loading; arrange individual needs with the operator and Wasatch Adaptive Sports.
The ticket page distinguishes full-day, half-day and Chickadee-only products, with adult 13–64, youth 7–12 and senior 65+ categories. It says children six and under still need a ticket even when the ticket is free. A Snowbird winter ticket includes the Tram and Snowbird lifts within its applicable scope; it does not include Alta without a separate upgrade. Alta skiing, inter-resort transfer permission and pass-specific benefits are outside this guide.
The inspected price panel advertises starting adult full-day/half-day prices of USD 195/166, youth USD 117/99, senior USD 166/141, and USD 42 for Chickadee-only. The operator says prices vary with demand and date. These are dated advertised starting amounts, not a binding quote or assurance that a particular day, age or package is available. Rentals, lessons, parking and express-lane additions require their own actual inclusions.
Use a reusable Bird Card or collect an online purchase by scanning its confirmation QR code at a Pick-Up Box in Snowbird Center, Creekside or The Cliff Lodge. Keep the card in its own suitable pocket away from devices and metal objects as directed. The ticket page says tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable; ask the Ticket Office about an actual date change before buying rather than assuming a weather refund.
Unconfirmed: the final payable 2026/27 price, taxes, inventory, exact half-day start and your pass or package eligibility must be checked in the chosen dated product before payment. No live Offer or all-resort entitlement is inferred from a starting-price panel. Ticket enquiries: +1 801 933 2215, as listed on the contact page.
Stay in control, leave room for downhill users, stop where visible, look uphill before merging and obey every rope, closure and hazard sign. Ask a lift attendant if you need help loading or unloading. The operator prohibits uphill hiking or skiing during the winter operating season and prohibits aerial drones. An old off-season banner is not permission to skin uphill during winter.
The operator warns that avalanche mitigation reduces risk without eliminating avalanches within open ski terrain. Backcountry beyond its boundary has no resort avalanche mitigation or patrol cover. This guide excludes boundary exits, uncontrolled terrain, Alta transfers, steep unresolved alignments and backcountry touring. A mapped line is neither a safe descent nor permission to cross a boundary; do not follow it through a closure.
Interlodge is an avalanche-safety shelter restriction that can also close the canyon road. The operator directs guests to remain inside designated buildings and says outside travel, including sitting in a vehicle, is prohibited during the restriction. If specifically announced, straight-line movement between buildings does not permit access to parking lots or the highway. Follow the actual current alert and staff directions, and plan for delayed departure.
On-mountain emergency: +1 801 933 2137. Give staff your precise location and incident details. The published Snowbird Clinic number is +1 801 646 4800; beyond the managed boundary the operator directs rescue calls to 911. These contacts do not guarantee response times. The operator also prohibits skiing or lift use with infants carried in packs; non-skiing Tram exceptions do not authorize skiing with a child in a carrier.
Three rental locations serve different bases: Creekside Sports on Level 2 of Creekside Lodge, Snowbird Sports on Level 2 of Snowbird Center and Cliff Sports on Level 1 of The Cliff Lodge. The rental page separates skis-only, full packages and demos; adult and junior ski packages include boots and poles, while helmets are separately listed. Confirm stock, fitting, collection and return at the shop that matches your itinerary.
Mountain School offers private and group instruction, with advance booking or enquiries through Mountain Center on the Plaza Deck. Do not substitute a backcountry or helicopter experience for a managed-area lesson. The contact page lists Mountain School at +1 801 947 8222 and 08:30–16:30, while warning that hours can change. Confirm your actual lesson’s age, ability, meeting point, lift-ticket and equipment inclusions before arrival.
Wasatch Adaptive Sports is a separate nonprofit programme offering instruction and specialized equipment. Its listing is a useful contact lead, not confirmation that a particular chair, transfer, service-animal arrangement or equipment setup will meet your needs. The operator’s safety page has specific chairlift and skiing restrictions for service animals and a separate Tram/downloading arrangement. Discuss your actual itinerary and assistance in advance.
Unconfirmed: current rental stock, lesson places, adaptive availability, food-outlet hours and clinic operating cover are not established by a general service listing. General information is +1 801 933 2222 and snow/road information is +1 801 933 2100. Keep routine enquiries separate from emergency calls. Lodging, food and childcare have their own bookings and conditions; no listing reserves a place.
Selected historical name and local-grade references only. The coverage note explains the unavailable current official plan. This list establishes neither the full inventory nor current opening or access.
