Two managed alpine sectors above Meransen and Vals, linked by Gaisjoch across the valley. The choice of starting village matters for lessons, hire, ticket scope and the complete return; the independent map keeps those connections distinct from Plose and other regional activities.
080MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore the independent community map and practical starting bases. Read the coverage limits and check current opening and access with the operator.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
The operator’s winter page provides piste-plan links. Historical: the piste-plan download is named 2025–2026; a current artwork edition is unconfirmed. Unconfirmed: a current operator artwork edition and lawful inline-preview permission remain unverified; the ordinary operator map page is linked separately and no operator artwork is reproduced. Scoped OSM downhill centre lines and passenger lifts cover Meransen/Gitschberg, the Gaisjoch connection and Vals/Jochtal. Mitterwiese geometry, backcountry-tagged lines, technical/private/proposed features and separate regional ski areas are omitted. Source names and unverified grades remain independent community references; OSM segments are not the resort inventory. No current skiing, safe return, access permission or navigation is guaranteed. Original canonical API tile HTTP response dates provide the snapshot clock, not Overpass replication time. Conflicting sources: the operator’s lift list includes Mitterwiese (206), while the retained community source tags its tow as disused. Its geometry is omitted from this independent layer; the community tag is not a verified statement that the operator has retired the lift or that it is currently closed.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Bergbahn and Nesselbahn community alignments above Meransen/Maranza.
Village approaches and higher mountain pistes; exact daily service requires checking.
Access: Named gondola link between the two managed sectors.
Confirm both onward connections and return before crossing; no guaranteed continuous ski circuit.
Access: Jochtalbahn and Schilling approaches above Vals/Valles.
Hinterberg and Steinermandl community geometry; separate lesson and hire base.
Meransen/Maranza uses the Gitschberg-Nesselbahn approach; Vals/Valles uses Jochtalbahn. The point marks the remotely reviewed lower Bergbahn endpoint in Meransen. Match lessons, hire and collection to the correct village; it is not a surveyed accessible entrance.
The operator names Gaisjoch as the link between Gitschberg and Jochtal. Community geometry shows that alignment and the separate approaches. Confirm open onward facilities and permitted returns; Plose and the wider pass network are separate destinations.
Unconfirmed: the final Gaisjoch connection, open descent or permitted download to your chosen Meransen or Vals base has not been verified. Ask staff before crossing sectors and allow time for every connection; the general 16:30 closing reference is not a guaranteed last return. The sales contract’s 15:30 departure-valley connection limit can be preceded by earlier local closures; check the actual final bus separately.
01 / FIELD OVERVIEW
Independent Gitschberg Jochtal guide with a scoped community map, separate Meransen and Vals bases, dated pass terms and visible winter-operation and return limits.

Dated local-pass scope and practical return planning
Independent community map and genuine 2012 archive context
This guide covers the managed Gitschberg/Maranza and Jochtal/Valles alpine network above Meransen and Vals in South Tyrol. The tourism factsheet describes south-facing mountain pistes with higher open terrain and village approaches. Plose, Terenten’s village lift, Nordic loops, toboggan runs, winter walking and touring terrain are separate scopes; a shared pass or tourism brand does not make them one ski circuit.
The operator advertises 55 km and 25 pistes. Its linked factsheet divides that claimed inventory into 11 blue, 10 red and four black pistes. These are attributed local categories and advertised totals, not measurements of our map. We retain community difficulty tags without converting them to universal colours or assigning exact operator grades to unverified names.
Conflicting sources: the resort page’s narrative and the linked factsheet list 15 lifts, while the same resort page’s summary lists 14. No current accepted lift total is asserted; community ways are infrastructure records, not an operator inventory.
The community map includes the Meransen/Bergbahn–Nesselbahn side, Gaisjoch connection and Vals/Jochtal side. Backcountry-tagged descents and technical/private/proposed features are excluded. Conflicting sources: the operator’s lift list includes Mitterwiese (206), while the retained community source tags its tow as disused. Its geometry is omitted from this independent layer; the community tag is not a verified statement that the operator has retired the lift or that it is currently closed. Gaps in community geometry do not establish that a signed slope exists, is open or is safe to cross.
The official resort page identifies Gitschberg-Nesselbahn access from Meransen/Maranza and Jochtalbahn access from Vals/Valles, with Gaisjoch linking the sectors. Community data names Bergbahn and Nesselbahn on the Meransen side, Gaisjoch across the valley and Jochtalbahn, Schilling, Hinterberg and Steinermandl on the Vals side. Those source names are retained without claiming an inspected operator-map match.
Unconfirmed: the operator announces 4 December 2026–4 April 2027 for the Gitschberg, Jochtal and Gaisjoch cable cars, but today’s skiing and the final daily winter timetable have not been verified. Summer sightseeing operation through 7 November does not establish skiing.
The resort page gives general winter lift hours of 08:30–16:30 and says individual times are displayed at each facility. The 2026/27 sales contract asks skiers on longer circuits to reach the lift returning to their departure valley by 15:30 at the latest. Treat that as an outer planning limit, not a promise that every link runs that late; obey earlier posted closures and staff advice.
Unconfirmed: the final Gaisjoch connection, open descent or permitted download to your chosen Meransen or Vals base has not been verified. Ask staff before crossing sectors and allow time for every connection; the general 16:30 closing reference is not a guaranteed last return.
The official arrival page directs road visitors from A22 Brixen Nord toward the Pustertal/Bruneck road, turning before the tunnel for Mühlbach, Meransen and Vals. Choose the village that matches your lift, lesson and hire collection. The location point marks the lower end of OSM Bergbahn way27463446, reviewed remotely; no field survey, accessible boarding point or reserved parking space is claimed.
The rail approach uses the Brenner line to Franzensfeste/Fortezza, then the local Pustertal connection to Mühlbach/Rio di Pusteria or Vintl and a bus to the chosen village. Obtain an actual travel-date itinerary; the regional arrival overview is not a winter connection guarantee. Do not assume a lower-valley cable connection is included, working or adjacent to your final ski lift.
Historical: the linked ski-bus document is the 2025/26 timetable. Its routes and last departures do not establish winter 2026/27 service; confirm the actual date, base stop and final connection before travelling.
Unconfirmed: current winter parking charges, the exact ski-bus stop and last departure, step-free transfers and the complete accessible boarding chain have not been established. Confirm those practical details directly for your party; summer transport and a regional guest benefit do not prove a usable skiing transfer.
The rendered 2026/27 Gitschberg Jochtal–Brixen tariff lists an adult day at €66 in the season bands 4–19 December 2026, 10–30 January and 14 March–4 April 2027, and €73 in the high bands 20 December–9 January and 31 January–13 March. Junior days are €46/€51 and senior days €59/€66. The table identifies juniors born 2009–2018 and seniors born 1961 or earlier; valid identity documents are required for age discounts.
Three-hour and half-day products are €58/€64 for adults, €41/€45 for juniors and €52/€58 for seniors in the corresponding season/high bands. The asterisk limits these and one-day products to the ski area of purchase. Six-day adult valley products are €330/€367. Confirm the product’s actual geographic validity; neither Plose nor the wider twelve-area Dolomiti Superski network is a ski-linked extension of this guide.
The tariff’s child offer requires one accompanying adult buying a full-price pass simultaneously for the same period and has explicit exclusions including half-day, three-hour, season and certain choice-day products. Its wording specifies children born after 1 January 2019. Confirm exact eligibility and pass pairing rather than treating every child or every product as free. The 2026/27 contract makes ordinary passes personal and generally unchangeable, subject to its stated exceptions.
Unconfirmed: the exact half-day start time, individual online quote, additional card or insurance costs and the most suitable combined product have not been verified for a reader’s travel date. The published tariff is a dated source, not an offer from index.ski. Consult the current sales conditions and actual open-lift list before purchase; reduced lift availability, weather or an unused day do not automatically imply a refund.
The operator’s 2026/27 contract requires certified protective helmets for all skiers regardless of age and third-party liability insurance. It requires users to follow posted rules, choose terrain within their ability and account for visibility, snow and weather. First aid and transport may be charged. This source review is not a hands-on safety inspection or a guarantee that a particular policy covers your trip.
The contract prohibits slope use outside lift operating times. Do not enter closed pistes, working areas or overnight grooming terrain; machinery and difficult-to-see winch cables can make such access dangerous. Touring/night-event references in the tourism material are separate conditional activities and do not grant general uphill or after-hours permission here.
Unconfirmed: a current piste-by-piste operating report, safe continuous inter-sector return and individual adaptive evacuation arrangements have not been established. Check the actual morning report, weather, closures and local staff advice. A mapped centre line, sunny image, artificial-snow claim or planned season is not a safety or opening report.
For an emergency use the local emergency arrangements and follow patrol instructions. Ask the lift staff how to contact piste rescue and confirm any relevant costs before setting out; avoid inventing a resort-specific patrol number or assuming the tourism enquiry desk is an emergency service.
The resort source identifies Gitschberg ski school and Snow Pro in Meransen, and Jochtal ski school in Vals. It distinguishes village and mountain children’s areas and separate lesson meeting points. Confirm the correct location, lift ticket requirement, age/skill grouping and actual session before booking; a children’s facility does not guarantee unattended childcare or individual accessibility.
The official page lists Rentasport Gitschberg and Peppi in Meransen and Leitner/Die Mühle, Sport Mode Maria and Gatterer in Vals. Arrange sizing, collection and final return with the actual shop. Refreshment huts and pedestrian/toboggan activities are separate services; the regional hut count is not a promise that each is open beside a ski piste.
The current operator contact is Gitschberg Jochtal AG, Via Jochtal 1, 39037 Rio di Pusteria-Valles, telephone +39 0472 886048, with info@gitschberg-jochtal.com recorded on the legal page. The Mühlbach tourism office can help with wider travel planning. Published summer cash-desk hours are not winter lift hours.
Unconfirmed: current hire prices, lesson availability, individual accessible lift acceptance and open on-mountain services are not established. Ask the relevant provider with the party’s specific requirements; no operator reply or optional photograph is a condition of this independent sourced guide.
