Choose Breuil-Cervinia or Valtournenche as your Italian alpine base, with an independent map, practical ticket and transport guidance, weather-dependent connections and explicit limits on current skiing.
077MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore the independent community map and practical starting bases. Read the coverage limits and check current opening and access with the operator.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
Unconfirmed: the operator map page is linked separately, but a current artwork edition and lawful inline preview have not been verified; no operator artwork is reproduced in this guide. Independent named community geometry covers the managed Italian Breuil/Plan Maison/Pancheron/Cime Bianche and Valtournenche/Salette/Gran Sometta sectors. Swiss glacier/Zermatt, international crossing, upper-border terminal and approach pieces, unidentified or outline ways, separate parks, racing and touring are omitted. No continuous link or full resort inventory is asserted. Generic difficulty remains grey. This is not live opening, access permission or navigation. Four original canonical API tiles retain their actual HTTP response dates rather than Overpass replication timestamps.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Gondola and aerial cable-car approaches, with separate Cretaz and Cieloalto starts.
Managed Breuil basin, Pancheron and higher Italian corridors; border/Swiss scope excluded.
Access: Plan de La Glaea–Salette gondola and distinct sector chairs.
Managed alpine and learning terrain; Cime Bianche links require actual opening and timely return.
The pin marks the Breuil–Plan Maison base planning reference. Valtournenche starts separately at Plan de La Glaea with the Salette gondola; match the base to the actual rental, lesson and ground transfer.
Breuil–Plan Maison and Valtournenche–Salette are separate starting networks. Use a sector connection only when the operator confirms its lifts and pistes are open and a timely return is possible; the Swiss glacier and sightseeing crossing are outside this guide.
Unconfirmed: the last usable connection in each direction, open valley descents and complete return to your chosen Italian base were not established. Check the posted last connections with staff before ascending; a final lift closing time is not a safe departure time for a multi-lift return. Unconfirmed: the final 2026/27 local winter-bus programme, accessible transfer and last return were not established. Arriva currently marks the Green Cime Bianche and Light Blue skibus services suspended; its Blue Châtillon–Breuil-Cervinia and Violet Cielo Alto tables are dated from 10 September 2026. Recheck your actual travel day and stop.
01 / FIELD OVERVIEW
Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche ski guide: maps, bases and return planning; Cervinia’s season began on 24 October with limited international glacier access.
Separate Italian alpine starting bases
Weather-dependent links and complete-return guidance
Independent licensed map and genuine summer archive context
Breuil-Cervinia and Valtournenche are separate starting areas in the Italian Aosta Valley. This guide covers their managed alpine skiing and snowboarding: the Breuil basin, Plan Maison and Pancheron side, Cime Bianche approaches, and Valtournenche’s Salette and Gran Sometta sector. Zermatt and the Swiss glacier, Chamois, Torgnon, sightseeing crossings and ski touring are separate identities.
The AVIF inventories name Plan Maison–Cervinia, Ventina, Cretaz, Pancheron and the Cieloalto side in Breuil-Cervinia; Valtournenche lists R Blanche, Du Col, Gran Sometta, Gran Lago and the Salette learning area. Choose an open route suited to the party rather than treating every named descent as an interchangeable return. Lower valley skiing needs suitable snow and explicit opening.
The operator uses local blue, red and black piste categories. Preserve the actual signs and warnings; a community difficulty tag has not been converted into an official colour. The independent map retains named managed geometry and omits doubtful identities, upper-border pieces, Swiss glacier terrain and separate park or touring objects.
Unconfirmed: the AVIF pages list 46 Breuil-Cervinia piste rows and 23 Valtournenche rows under separate reports, while the main operator page combines several Italian areas and Zermatt. These are different reporting scopes, not a verified connected inventory. Community map segments are not piste or lift totals.
Historical: Tiia Monto’s photograph shows Breuil-Cervinia in summer on 6 August 2022. It is genuine local context under CC BY-SA 4.0, with unchanged original JPEG bytes and responsive display crops; it does not establish winter snow, current facilities or open pistes.
Breuil-Cervinia has both a gondola and an aerial cable-car approach to Plan Maison, with separate Cretaz and Cieloalto starts. Plan Maison, Fornet, Bontadini and Pancheron are named passenger chairs; the Cime Bianche Laghi gondola serves the higher corridor. A lift’s presence on this map establishes community geometry, not that it is operating or appropriate for every passenger.
Valtournenche starts at Plan de La Glaea with the Salette gondola. Regional tourism describes its ascent from about 1,524 m to Salette at about 2,245 m; the published inventory also names Becca d’Aran, Motta, Bec Carré, Du Col and Gran Sometta. Check which approach, learning facility and descent your lesson or ticket actually uses.
Connections across the Cime Bianche sector depend on open lifts, pistes and weather. Plan Maison and Salette are different meeting points and valley returns. The operator warns that wind can slow or stop service and that missing a last connection can require an alternative return or overnight stay at the traveller’s expense.
Breuil-Cervinia’s 2026/27 ski season began on 24 October; the operator lists 2 May 2027 as its closing date. Early operation gives access to international glacier skiing and does not mean that every Italian piste is open. Valtournenche is scheduled for 28 November 2026–25 April 2027. Daily access, snow and weather restrictions apply.
Partial opening: the operator confirms that glacier skiing resumed on 24 October, naming Plateau Rosà I–III, Furggsattel and Matterhorn Glacier Ride II. Breuil-Cervinia provides access to this international glacier offer; separately reported Italian pistes can still be closed. Valtournenche is not included in this early opening and is scheduled from 28 November. Check the current sector report, the appropriate international pass and every return connection before travel.
The separately listed Breuil–Plan Maison services run 08:30–16:50 and 08:45–16:00, Plateau Rosa 09:00–16:10 and Cime Bianche Laghi 09:00–16:20. The operator warns of a possible 20-minute early closure in adverse or forecast adverse weather. These hours describe individual passenger services; they do not guarantee every ski sector, an open valley descent or your complete final connection. The independent map below covers Italian managed geometry and does not draw the international glacier offer; follow the official operator map and current report for that separate scope.
Unconfirmed: the last usable connection in each direction, open valley descents and complete return to your chosen Italian base were not established. Check the posted last connections with staff before ascending; a final lift closing time is not a safe departure time for a multi-lift return.
At the 7 November 2026 source check, the operator’s dated morning Telegram update confirms the Plan Maison, Fornet and Bontadini chairs open, together with the Breuil-Cervinia–Plateau Rosa cable-car line and the Swiss glacier connection. The live Italian report lists Plan Maison 6, Bontadini 2 (46), Teodulo–Bontadini 6, Fornet 1 (6.0) and a groomed Fornet route; the earlier announcement instead names pistes 6, 6.0 and 6.00. Conflicting sources: those piste references differ and are not treated as an identical inventory. This is limited opening, not confirmation of every Italian piste, Valtournenche, an open valley descent or a complete return. Check the current report, appropriate pass and every last connection before boarding.
The operator directs road arrivals via the A5 exit Châtillon/Saint-Vincent, then the regional road up the valley. Its transport information identifies Châtillon/Saint-Vincent as the rail approach and buses towards Valtournenche and Breuil-Cervinia. Check the actual train service, bus connection, winter road notices and equipment requirements for your date; a route description is not a live road or rail assurance.
The location pin is the Breuil-Cervinia Plan Maison base planning reference, not a surveyed entrance, reserved parking bay or accessible drop-off. Valtournenche’s Plan de La Glaea–Salette departure is farther down the valley. Choose the base before booking accommodation, lessons, equipment pickup and the last ground connection.
The operator’s Breuil-Cervinia car-park page lists the first 30 minutes free, EUR 10 for 07:01–19:00, EUR 1.50 per hour for 19:01–00:00 and EUR 10 for 00:01–07:00, capped at EUR 20 per 24 hours. It requires departure within 30 minutes after payment. Confirm the actual tariff, vehicle conditions and capacity at entry; these are not Valtournenche parking terms.
Unconfirmed: an individually suitable step-free arrival, boarding assistance, adapted equipment, descent and evacuation plan were not verified. A discounted ticket or a lift serving pedestrians does not establish accessible skiing. Agree the entire journey with the operator and chosen school before booking.
The provisional Italian conditions distinguish Cervino-only, Valtournenche-only, combined Cervino–Valtournenche and international Cervino–Zermatt products. Match the ticket to the actual lifts you intend to use. A scenic return ticket, Italian-area pass and international ski pass are different products; none guarantees that a link will open.
Unconfirmed: a current exact-day, age-specific price for the paired Italian ski area was not verified. AVIF shows a EUR 64–88 daily range for Cervinia and a Valtournenche table with zero placeholders and an older season label. Those rows and the separate glacier international offer are not a reliable quote for your intended Italian ticket.
Conflicting sources: the Italian ticket page is headed winter 2026/27 but explicitly calls its text provisional and under revision; the English page remains headed summer 2026. Check the current Italian conditions and exact checkout before paying, especially closure, refund, return and international-use restrictions.
The provisional conditions require a valid travel document for Plateau Rosà and Swiss territory. They also contain restrictions on international day/multi-day downhill cable-car use. Do not treat an Italian pass or a glacier headline as authorisation for an international sightseeing journey; verify the exact product and return arrangement with the ticket office.
The Italian page lists a EUR 2 electronic card and documentary requirements for age or disability reductions. Confirm the applicable dated tariff and evidence before purchase. A concession does not establish suitable boarding or terrain, and no refund entitlement, ticket extension or guaranteed weather replacement is promised by this guide.
The operator’s current safety update requires a certified protective helmet for all ages on the managed slopes. Wear suitable protection and clothing, control speed for visibility and traffic, give other users room, obey signs and staff instructions, and remain on open marked pistes. The same page retains an older child-only sentence; follow its newer all-age requirement and current on-site instructions.
This high mountain setting brings rapidly changing weather, cold, intense sunlight and exposed upper terrain. The operator warns of avalanche and crevasse hazards outside the marked ski area. Closed pistes, Swiss glacier terrain, off-piste descents and touring are not authorised or made safe by this independent alpine map. Check the actual forecast, closures and suitable descent before ascending.
The 2026/27 insurance page states that third-party liability cover is mandatory for alpine skiing in Italy. It offers optional Snowcare at the time the pass is issued and states an on-piste rescue charge of EUR 200 unless covered by the policy. Check your own policy’s activity, territory, rescue limits, exclusions and activation; purchasing a pass alone is not proof of cover.
Unconfirmed: a dedicated current resort patrol telephone number was not established. Ask staff for the actual emergency procedure and identify the piste, nearest lift and location when reporting an accident; the general operator office is an information contact.
The operator lists Scuola di Sci del Cervino, Scuola di Sci del Breuil, Ride’Em and Scuola Sci Valtournenche separately. Breuil school publishes info@scuoladiscibreuil.com and its contact page for booking enquiries. Valtournenche school publishes Via Roma 80, info@scuolascivaltournenche.com, +39 339 469 9126 and +39 393 243 4768, with private, group and seasonal instruction.
Valtournenche school places its rental in the village and offers online equipment booking. Breuil-Cervinia’s operator directory lists distinct providers at Plan Maison, Piazzale Funivie and in the village. Confirm fitting, sizes, helmet, pickup, overnight storage, servicing and return at the chosen shop. An upper-station rental can require a suitable valid lift journey before collection.
Agree the actual lesson meeting point, language, ability group and whether equipment and lift tickets are included. Confirm opening, cancellation conditions, food, toilets and assistance for the exact base; a directory listing is not a same-day availability or accessibility guarantee. Ask about adapted instruction and the complete return before committing to high or inter-sector terrain.
For lift and ticket information Cervino S.p.A. publishes Località Bardoney, 11021 Breuil-Cervinia, +39 0166 944311 and info@cervinospa.com. Use the operator’s current report and staff for day-specific arrangements; this contact is distinct from an emergency patrol number.
Selected historical name and local-grade references only. The coverage note explains the unavailable current official plan. This list establishes neither the full inventory nor current opening or access.
