Unconfirmed: this independent OSM map has not been matched to the current official winter plan and does not establish permitted access or opening. Conservative community geometry includes the complete Medeu approach and managed alpine extent; uncertain learner and upper identities, exact duplicates, technical/private and backcountry features are omitted. Grey pistes have no confirmed local colour. Community names, geometry and segment totals are not a complete current operator inventory, a grooming report or navigation.

HOW THE AREA CONNECTS

Understand the sectors.

01

Shymbulak ski base

Access: Upper station of the Medeu approach gondola; confirm a permitted date-specific transfer.

School learning areas and major uplift starts; exact learner installations remain unconfirmed.

02

Middle and upper mountain

Access: Combi-1 and Combi-2 are distinct links, with KKD-4 and Left Talgar separately named.

Match the intended marked winter connection and return to staff advice; no open route is inferred.

01

Start with the correct base

Medeu is the lower city-bus and approach-gondola base; Shymbulak is the ski-area base above it. The marker uses the operator’s directions coordinates at the upper approach-gondola station. Confirm the actual permitted date-specific transfer and lesson meeting point; this is not a surveyed accessible entrance.

02

Check each sector connection

The operator timetable names Combi-1, Combi-2, KKD-4 and Left Talgar separately. Community geometry provides orientation, with uncertain learner/upper branches omitted. It has not been matched to a current official winter plan: confirm the intended marked connection, closure and return with staff.

03

Confirm the complete return

Confirm the last usable winter descent or permitted lift descent and the complete return from Medeu before going up. The newer 30 October notice schedules approach/Combi reopening from 2 November and KKD-4 from 10 November, separately from skiing. The generic timetable and historical April road-transfer windows do not establish a usable winter return.

Keep the managed alpine area separate from mountain excursions

Shymbulak is the managed alpine ski area in the Trans-Ili Alatau above Almaty, within Ile-Alatau National Park. Medeu is the lower transport base and skating venue, not the ski-area base. The resort describes terrain between about 2,200 and 3,180 metres and advertises 17–20 km of slopes. Its general panel says ten lifts; this is not a reconciled installation inventory. Hiking routes, the Bogdanovich glacier and surrounding mountaineering or freeride terrain are outside this guide’s marked alpine scope.

Historical: the linked rules valid from 14 November 2019 describe local green beginner, blue easy, red difficult and black very difficult categories. The current school names White Bear, Snake and Professor for initial learning, Green Meadow and Left Talgar for developing skills, and Azhiada, Talgar, Sunny Valley, Tube, Cone and Dry Ravine for higher-level teaching. Its groups are not a complete piste inventory or exact geometric identities. The 21 November 2025 Ak Barsik opening notice is historical. Exact current named grades and disputed branches are unconfirmed, so the independent map keeps pistes grey and omits ambiguous learner/upper features.

Unconfirmed: this independent OSM map has not been matched to the current official winter plan and does not establish permitted access or opening. No operator artwork is reproduced or previewed. The map covers a conservative managed alpine extent and the Medeu approach, with duplicate, technical, private and backcountry exclusions; the complete downloadable geometry is available under ODbL. Mapped way segments are not an official piste or lift count. Ask staff for current marked connections and closures before using the mountain.

Distinguish the approach gondola from the skiing installations

The operator timetable names the distinct Medeu–Shymbulak approach, Combi-1, Combi-2, KKD-4 and Left Talgar installations. Combi-1 and Combi-2 connect the ski base, middle and upper mountain. The school also describes travelators and T-bar learning uplift. Unconfirmed exact learner footprints are omitted. OSM’s Combi mixed chair-and-gondola tags and feature names remain community descriptions, not a current technical certification or an operator-matched footprint inventory.

The operator’s newer 30 October 2026 notice schedules Medeu–Shymbulak, Combi-1 and Combi-2 reopening from 2 November and KKD-4 from 10 November, resolving the older 1/9 November maintenance-end discrepancy at announcement scope. It explicitly states that cable-car reopening does not mark the ski-season start; that date will be announced separately according to weather, slope condition and snow depth. Nominal hours remain Medeu–Shymbulak 09:00–18:00, Combi-1 and KKD-4 09:00–17:00, Combi-2 09:00–16:30 and Left Talgar 09:30–16:00. Unconfirmed: actual public skiing, last boarding and a complete winter return remain unverified; nominal transport hours and pass sales do not establish them.

Plan the Medeu approach and the final mountain transfer

Unconfirmed: a usable date-specific mountain transfer and return are not established. The operator’s directions put Medeu about 13 km south along Dostyk Avenue from Al-Farabi Avenue. They describe city buses 12 from Dostyk–Kurmangazy and 21 from Dostyk–Zholdasbekov, running 07:00–20:00 at about half-hour intervals, followed by the gondola. This is an undated resort summary rather than a carrier timetable checked for a chosen winter day. Its eco-bus paragraph quotes KZT 800 one way from the Medeu rink to Shymbulak; a current autumn-maintenance departure, fare and permitted return have not been established. A separate maintenance-transfer notice gives road access windows only for 13–30 April 2026. Those spring windows must not be used for the present road works or future winter travel.

Conflicting sources: The general directions also mention taxi access, but the operator’s July notice restricts the Medeu–Tuyuk-Su road from 24 July through 30 November for infrastructure works. A September municipal notice describes a separate environmental-access arrangement, including weekday treatment of electric cars and wider weekend restrictions. Neither a parking tariff nor the generic taxi paragraph establishes permission to drive to the ski base today. Confirm the permitted vehicle, operating transfer, final walk and return before travelling. No continuous step-free bus, station, snow-crossing or lift-boarding chain has been established.

Separate the new winter offer from older and sightseeing products

The operator’s 1 October 2026 notice prices the adult 2026/27 Unlimited Season Pass at KZT 495,000 in October, KZT 522,500 in November and KZT 550,000 at base price. The child 6–14 offer is KZT 225,000, 237,500 and 250,000 respectively. Unlimited includes day and night skiing; the weekday product excludes weekends, holidays and night skiing, and the night product has its own scope. The notice applies the early-purchase offer at Medeu through the stated October/November windows, subject to the resort’s actual season and product terms.

Conflicting sources: The live ticket catalogue still describes a 2025/26 season pass with an 08:30–24:00 label, so it is not accepted as the current purchase or timetable confirmation. The tariff page currently lists pedestrian rides and parking, not a verified skier day fare. Its child range is 6–14, whereas the linked 2019 rules use older categories. Benefits say five and under are free, while the new English season notice says under five and the benefits footer also varies that wording. Confirm age-five eligibility and exact current payment, cancellation and card conditions before purchase; no checkout or reservation was submitted.

Use current closures and local patrol advice

Follow barriers, marked routes, staff directions and a speed that allows room for people below. The operator’s general avalanche guidance directs visitors to on-site information boards, emergency-department alerts and Ski Patrol, and warns against crossing barriers or leaving managed slopes in higher-risk periods. Unconfirmed: no dated local avalanche bulletin is established here. This guide and its community geometry exclude backcountry and extreme terrain; a drawn line does not establish opening, grooming or a navigable safe route.

Conflicting sources: The service rules linked from the live page state an edition valid from 14 November 2019. Their slope clause requires helmets through age 16 inclusive and their lesson clause refers to under 16; the current school checklist says under 14. Preserve the discrepancy and confirm the applicable requirement with staff. A rule for walking at the edge during a forced ascent/descent does not authorize ski touring or after-hours uphill access. The rules require individual staff assessment of wheelchairs or special equipment before transport. For an emergency Kazakhstan’s official emergency guidance lists 112; the resort information and duty contact is +7 727 331 77 77.

Check the lesson, hire and assistance arrangements at the right base

Conflicting sources: The ski and snowboard school explains terrain progression and lists individual, group and specialist lessons, without an accepted 2026/27 price edition. The school asks for bookings at least 24 hours and no more than two weeks ahead. The Russian booking conditions specify that group lessons are booked on site rather than online. Both current descriptions give a 24-hour cancellation cutoff, a 12-hour rescheduling cutoff and an unqualified 17:00 deadline for refund/rescheduling applications. Their 70% no-show reimbursement wording conflicts with the older linked rules’ no-refund provisions. These unresolved conditions are not a refund guarantee: confirm the applicable edition, exact cutoff day and meeting point before paying. A pass and equipment are separate pre-lesson requirements.

Unconfirmed: current winter ski/boot stock, rates and the collection/return base are not established. The current hire page promotes summer hiking equipment and gives +7 700 654 65 71. It does not verify winter ski/boot stock or a current ski-rental rate. The old ticket product locates the main rental and lockers at Medeu, while the 2019 rules describe points at both bases; confirm collection and return for the chosen service. General support is info@shymbulak.com and +7 727 331 77 77. Weekday disability concessions are described separately from physical accessibility. Arrange any adapted instruction, companion, equipment carriage and boarding assistance directly for the individual needs before booking.
