A managed alpine network above the Tinée valley, with Auron’s village and plateau starts distinct from Pinatelle access at Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée. Four named sectors combine open mountain terrain with forested descents, while the starting base and final connections shape the day.
079MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore the independent community map and practical starting bases. Read the coverage limits and check current opening and access with the operator.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
Unconfirmed: the operator map page is linked separately, but a current artwork edition and lawful inline preview have not been verified; no operator artwork is reproduced in this guide. Independent OSM downhill centre lines and named passenger lifts cover the Auron plateau, western managed sectors and separate Pinatelle approach. Backcountry/freeride and touring geometry, including the backcountry-tagged Lieuson descent, is omitted. Its named chair remains infrastructure only. Source spellings and grey unverified grades are retained; OSM segments are not the resort inventory. No current opening, permission, safe connection, complete return or navigation is guaranteed. The original canonical API snapshot uses its HTTP response Date, not an Overpass replication timestamp.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Télériou approach and plateau learning facilities; confirm the actual meeting base.
Nabines/Éterlou beginner scope differs from Las Donnas discovery and full-area products.
Access: Community geometry shows Las Donnas, Prés, Dôme/Abris and Haute Plane alignments.
Use only open signed links; mapped lines do not guarantee a continuous tour or return.
Access: Separate lower approach from Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée via Pinatelle.
Backcountry-tagged Lieuson descent is omitted; its mapped chair is infrastructure only.
The point marks the village end of the Télériou lift, identified remotely in OpenStreetMap data. Chastellarès learning facilities and the separate Saint-Étienne/Pinatelle approach have different meeting and collection points; confirm yours before arranging hire or lessons.
The tourism office names Las Donnas, Sauma Longue, Demandols and Lieuson. Community geometry shows the connecting lifts, including the separate Pinatelle arrival; discovery validity is limited to Las Donnas. Use only signed open managed links and do not enter omitted backcountry terrain.
Unconfirmed: the complete open return to your chosen Auron or Saint-Étienne base, the final connecting lifts and permitted downloads have not been verified for the coming winter. Ask staff before leaving the base; a community line is not a guaranteed route home. Ground transport is a separate constraint; obtain the actual final shuttle or bus departure too.
01 / FIELD OVERVIEW
Independent Auron guide with a scoped community map, three orientation cards, separate bases, pass scope and explicit winter-date, tariff and return limitations.
Four distinct managed sectors above the Tinée valley
Auron plateau and Saint-Étienne/Pinatelle bases distinguished
Independent map and visible tariff, date and return limitations
Auron is the managed alpine ski area above Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée in the Alpes-Maritimes. The tourism office names Las Donnas, Sauma Longue, Demandols and Lieuson as its four sectors, combining higher open slopes with forested descents. Isola 2000 is a separate resort; Saint-Dalmas touring, Nordic trails and off-piste terrain are separate activities outside this guide.
The tourism source advertises 135 km. This is an attributed area claim, not a measurement of the community lines or an inventory count. It describes local green, blue, red and black categories; the independent map retains raw community difficulty tags in grey where no literal source colour is established. No universal grade conversion or uninspected operator-map match is implied.
The beginner source identifies the Nabines chair and Éterlou tow with two green learning pistes. The discovery pass is limited to Las Donnas and advertises 20 pistes across several grades; it is not an all-beginner or full-area product. Three ESF learning carpets and the Family Park on Ubac are separately described facilities, with actual service dependent on opening.
The map omits backcountry/freeride lines, ski-touring tracks and the backcountry-tagged Lieuson descent. It retains the named Lieuson passenger chair as infrastructure only. Duplicate names can belong to several OSM segments; neither those segments nor the mapped lifts establish the complete current operator inventory.
Choose the starting base before collecting equipment. Auron village has the Télériou approach towards the Chastellarès plateau; community geometry then shows Nabines, Éterlou, Ubac, Las Donnas, Prés and Blainon, with Dôme/Abris and Haute Plane connections farther into the network. These are named community alignments, not a promise of current service.
Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée is a distinct lower starting village: the tourism source gives 1,140 m and approximately 7 km by road from Auron, with Pinatelle gondola access to the ski area. The community map shows its arrival by the Lieuson alignment. Do not treat Saint-Étienne parking, Auron village and the plateau as interchangeable meeting points.
Unconfirmed: the tourism homepage announces 5 December 2026 for the ski-area opening, but current skiing, exact daily lift hours and the final 2026/27 closing date have not been verified. Do not treat the announcement or a season-pass sale as an operating report.
The general domain page groups three aerial cable installations, nine chairs, three surface tows, a rope tow and three ESF-reserved carpets. Its category wording and the independently mapped individual alignments are different scopes; no complete present installation count is asserted. The cash-desk page lists collection hours, which are not lift running times.
Unconfirmed: the complete open return to your chosen Auron or Saint-Étienne base, the final connecting lifts and permitted downloads have not been verified for the coming winter. Ask staff before leaving the base; a community line is not a guaranteed route home.
The tourism office describes the road from the A8 Carros/Mercantour exit through the RM6202 bis/RM6202 and then RM2205 towards Saint-Sauveur and Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée. It warns that the Lombarde and Bonette passes are closed in winter; do not follow a satnav mountain-pass shortcut. Check the actual road bulletin before departure.
The office advertises free parking at Auron, and the family page places parking at Chastellarès beside the separate sledging area. Confirm the exact lot, snow clearance and access restrictions for your chosen base. The map point marks the village end of the Télériou lift from a remote review of OpenStreetMap data; no site visit or field survey was made. It is not a surveyed car-park entrance, reserved space or step-free route.
Unconfirmed: dated 2026/27 winter bus and internal-shuttle timetables, actual fares, reservations, luggage access and a usable last return have not been verified with the carrier. The tourism page lists line 91 from Nice Grand Arénas, a reservation-only snow bus and local shuttles, but its quoted fares and undated links are not confirmed for your visit.
Train and flight arrivals are described through Nice and onward tram/bus connections. Allow for the separate mountain transfer, weather and the final return before booking; a tourism journey estimate is not a guaranteed connection or accessible transfer.
The explicitly labelled Auron winter 2026/27 season page lists a standard adult age 26–61 pass at €689 through 22 November 2026 and €712 from 23 November. The loyalty figures are €620 and €689 respectively and require a 2025/26 season purchase. Other age/family categories have their own conditions; these are checked published price bands, not confirmed stock or a promise that all sectors open.
That page says pre-season central cash desks open from 7 November, 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–16:00, and requests the completed application and identity photograph. Auron-only validity is distinct from the wider Mercantour product. The beginner pass must be collected free at a desk before using Nabines/Éterlou; the discovery pass is confined to Las Donnas.
Unconfirmed: the day, afternoon and discovery tariff pages do not identify a winter edition. Their currently displayed adult examples (€44 day, €35.20 after 12:30, €30.80 discovery day) are undated published quotes, not verified 2026/27 checkout prices or availability.
Conflicting sources: the day-pass page quotes a €2 reusable hands-free card, while the general domain-page footer still quotes €1.50 for day/stay cards. The explicitly labelled 2026/27 season pass separately excludes a €5 season card; confirm the support charge for the product you buy.
Conflicting sources: the wider Mercantour pass page is titled 2025–2026 but contains a 22 November 2026 purchase deadline and a second band starting 23 November 2027. Its Auron/Isola 2000 scope does not make those mixed-year prices a verified 2026/27 offer or create a skiing link between the resorts.
Unconfirmed: the applicable 2026/27 booking, personal-cancellation, partial-closure compensation and insurance terms have not been established. The tourism tariff warns that rescue is charged and ordinary passes are not refunded; obtain the exact terms supplied with your purchase and check your cover rather than assume every interruption has the same remedy.
Use only open signed managed pistes and obey patrol and lift staff. Match the actual local grade and conditions to your ability; control speed, give priority to people below and avoid stopping in narrow or hidden places. The French sports ministry recommends a helmet, suitable equipment and checking weather and piste conditions before setting out.
The tourism services directory identifies SEM des Cimes du Mercantour for lift and piste-service enquiries on +33 4 93 23 00 02. For an emergency, alert on-site staff and give the incident position and piste marker; the same directory lists 112 and fire/rescue 18. Rescue charges, medical cover and personal insurance need separate checking.
The published touring page mentions three circuits near the ski-area edge, but this managed-alpine guide does not verify their present route, uphill hours or permissions. No off-piste, after-hours, private or backcountry access is granted by the map. Keep away from grooming machinery, winch cables and closed terrain; an archive winter photo cannot establish safe present conditions.
Unconfirmed: the complete open return to your chosen Auron or Saint-Étienne base, the final connecting lifts and permitted downloads have not been verified for the coming winter. Ask staff before leaving the base; a community line is not a guaranteed route home.
ESF lists separate winter offices at the Chastellarès plateau and La Ruade/central village. Arrange the lesson, ability group, meeting base and hire collection in advance. Its current advice requires the appropriate pass separately from the lesson, recommends booking ahead of February holidays and distinguishes beginner, Las Donnas discovery and whole-area teaching scope.
The tourism directory lists several rental shops in Auron and Saint-Étienne; choose the correct village and arrange fitting, collection, return and cancellation directly. No current hire package price, opening hour or availability is established here. Shops, cafés, cash desks and scenic lifts can operate independently of skiing.
The tourism handiski page describes two tandem-ski chairs for people unable to ski independently, used with qualified accompanying staff, and specialist private ESF instruction. The day-pass page distinguishes CMI Invalidité from CMI Parking/priorité and conditions accompanying-person reductions; a card category is not a general promise of free assisted skiing or universal eligibility.
Unconfirmed: the complete step-free winter arrival, transfer, boarding, evacuation arrangements, session availability and individual equipment fit have not been verified. The published tandem-ski service needs advance assessment with a qualified instructor; it does not guarantee independent access to every lift.
