Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.

Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.

Unconfirmed: a current official piste-map edition and lawful preview basis have not been verified; operator artwork and previews are omitted. Independently scoped community geometry covers the Žagarkalns managed downhill corridors and five unassigned drag-lift alignments. The community sledging hill, neighbouring Ozolkalns and freestyle terrain are omitted; Ofisa, Meža and teaching-area coverage is incomplete. No current operator aliases or artwork comparison are claimed. Grades remain grey without exact local colour evidence. Mapped segments are not the resort inventory, current opening, access permission, guaranteed connections or navigation.

HOW THE AREA CONNECTS

Understand the sectors.

01

Learning area

Access: Confirm the booked meeting point with the instructor coordinator.

Operator describes four teaching tracks for children and beginners.

02

Main managed slopes

Access: Choose actual open terrain with staff; operator describes a Cīruļkalns top connection toward Garais and Skolnieku.

Published descriptions distinguish broad rolling, steeper, gentle and varied terrain; no universal grades.

01

Find the winter ski base

Use municipal tourism’s Cīrulīšu iela 70 directions reference, then confirm the cashier, rental and booked lesson point. Mūrlejas iela 12 is the separate summer boat base; the pin does not establish accessible arrival.

02

Choose a suitable open connection

The operator describes Cīruļkalns joining Garais kalns and Skolnieku kalns at the top. Confirm that connection and the appropriate descent with staff. Community lines do not establish current opening or a link to Ozolkalns.

03

Plan the return before ascending

Confirm the suitable open descent back toward your arrival and rental side and the final service and equipment-return time. Use designated lift exits; avoid tow tracks, walking across pistes and closed terrain. No passenger downhill return is promised.

Learning area and managed main slopes

Ski base separate from boat base and Ozolkalns

Independent scoped ODbL map

Choose the learning area or a suitable managed main slope

Žagarkalns is a managed alpine ski and snowboard area at Cēsis, Latvia. The operator separates four teaching tracks from its main slopes and describes button-style surface uplift. This guide covers Žagarkalns, not neighbouring Ozolkalns, the river campsite or the surrounding nature trails. Start with the learning area if you have not mastered stopping, turning and using a tow.

The Latvian slope page describes broad, undulating Žagarkalns, steeper Cīruļkalns at 180 metres, gentler Garais kalns at 400 metres and varied Ofisa trase at 420 metres. These are operator descriptions and published lengths, not a surveyed current inventory or universal difficulty grades. Cīruļkalns is described as joining Garais kalns and Skolnieku kalns at the top; verify the actual open connection with staff.

Conflicting sources: the English winter overview names Meža trase among five main slopes, while the Latvian overview groups four main slopes; the detailed Latvian page also lists Meža trase and several training and park names. The advertised 12 tracks and blank or zero counters do not establish a reconciled current inventory. The independent map shows community corridors, with unverified grades left grey.

Historical: the genuine winter photograph by ainars brūvelis has camera date 1 January 2009 and Panoramio upload date 2 January 2009. Its snowy slopes, skiers and tow equipment are archive landscape context, not evidence of current snow, installations or opening.

Ask staff about the tow, the open descent and the return

The operator describes button-style surface lifts. Its linked ski-use contract tells inexperienced users to ask lift staff for help, board and leave at designated points, keep straight on the tow track and clear the track promptly after falling. Check the suitable descent and return before ascending; a mapped line does not promise passenger downhill transport.

Unconfirmed: exact 2026/27 ski-season boundaries, a future daily timetable and the last usable lift service have not been established. At the actual source check, both language versions of the winter hours page listed every weekday closed, while the winter overview described preparations for snowmaking when weather permits. Telephone enquiry hours are not skiing hours. A short-lived map status observation expires independently of this full guide.

Unconfirmed: the current installation count and exact operator identities of all five community-mapped drag-lift alignments are not verified. The independent map omits the community sledging hill and the separate Ozolkalns network. Ask staff which marked connection and descent back toward your starting side are available; do not cross closures or follow summer walking paths as ski returns.

Use the Cīrulīšu ski base, separately from the summer boat base

Cēsis municipal tourism lists the ski base at Cīrulīšu iela 70, Cēsis, with a directions reference at 57.300749509764, 25.230531692505. Use that reference for initial orientation and confirm the actual parking, rental and lesson entrance before travelling. It is not a surveyed accessible path or a reserved parking place.

The operator’s winter contact page gives the legal postal location as Žagarkalns, Meijermuiža, Drabešu parish. Its separate English summer contact page directs visitors to Mūrlejas iela 12, the campsite and boat base. Those are different arrival contexts.

Unconfirmed: a dated winter bus or shuttle schedule, parking charges and capacity, step-free arrival, accessible toilets and individual lift assistance have not been verified. Plan and confirm each outward and return travel leg, allowing time for winter roads, fitting equipment and meeting the instructor. A concession for disabled visitors is not evidence of an accessible transfer chain.

Check the applicable season and category before buying

The live Latvian tariff lists EUR 20, 22 and 25 for one, two and three hours of lift use. These are the amounts displayed at the source check; no 2026/27 validity statement was established. Confirm the applicable tariff, available terrain, when time begins and all card or deposit charges at the cashier before paying. Rental and instruction are listed separately.

Conflicting sources: Latvian pricing gives children up to seven years a EUR 8 ticket for one to three hours; English pricing describes ages two to seven and two hours only. Both list ages eight to twelve at EUR 10, 12 and 15 for one, two and three hours. Latvian pricing also includes disabled visitors with pensioners in the weekday concession, while the English table names pensioners only. Confirm eligibility and proof rather than assuming the broader terms apply.

Historical: the rules landing page labels its on-site ticketing and payment advice 2022/23. The linked four-page contract was created in January 2021 despite its January 2026 upload path; it says a lost ticket is not replaced and time already started is not refunded merely because snow, weather or other conditions cease to suit the visitor.

Unconfirmed: current ticket-purchase channels, booking requirements, card/deposit fees and cancellation or refund terms for 2026/27 are not fully established.

Keep to authorised marked terrain and obey the local contract

The currently linked contract requires a valid ticket or operator permission, suitable serviceable alpine skis or a snowboard, ski brakes and a snowboard retention strap. Under-twelves need direct adult supervision. It prohibits sledges, cross-country skis, animals, intoxicated use and ordinary walking in the descent or tow zones. No uphill, touring, off-piste or closed-terrain permission is established by this guide or community geometry.

Keep clear of tow lines, give downhill users enough space, control speed for visibility and ability, and assess the snow before every descent. The contract prohibits entering a slope occupied by a grooming vehicle even if a lift operates, and requires reporting accidents immediately to slope staff and helping the injured. Ask staff how to summon assistance and where to meet them before skiing.

Historical: the linked January 2021 contract restricts its designated snowboard park to suitably skilled users and specifically requires skiers there to be at least sixteen and wear helmets. The current operator separately promotes a family fun park and freestyle terrain; do not assume the old park label establishes identical boundaries or eligibility for every present feature. Unconfirmed: current park-by-park age rules, general helmet requirements and the precise on-site rescue arrangement need confirmation. Wear a suitable helmet and follow the stricter posted instruction; freestyle and sledging geometry are outside this guide’s own-map scope.

Arrange fitting, instruction and any assistance in advance

The Latvian tariff says to take a queue number, collect equipment and then take the rental agreement to the cashier for the lift ticket. Bring identity documentation, keep the agreement until return, clean snow off the equipment and return every listed item together. Rental equipment is for use at Žagarkalns only. A standard ski set includes skis, boots and poles; snowboard sets include board and boots.

The school advertises individual skiing and snowboarding instruction plus children’s and adults’ groups. Its published children’s group starting age is four; arrange the right group, language, fitting and meeting point with the instructor coordinator on +371 28707707. The general winter information line is +371 26266266; the Latvian contact page lists equipment maintenance by appointment on +371 25654696. The operator also describes a café and family services.

Unconfirmed: the school’s undated weekend lesson times and prices, current rental stock and service opening hours are not confirmed for 2026/27.

Conflicting sources: the academy page describes Sunday activity while its snowboard timetable also lists Saturday; confirm the exact booked session.

Unconfirmed: individually adapted instruction, assistance, building access and café availability need direct arrangement rather than being inferred from family marketing or a concession.
