107MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore the independent community map and practical starting bases. Read the coverage limits and check current opening and access with the operator.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
This independent ODbL map covers the community-mapped managed alpine area by Torre, with four source-reconciled passenger alignments and the retained downhill geometry. Two misspelled community piste identities are omitted rather than equated to operator names. Natural-piste and snowpark inventories are not transcribed into new geometry; the separate sled area, synthetic facilities elsewhere, touring, freeride and technical/private/disused features are excluded. Unverified local colours remain grey. Community features are not an operator piste count, a complete inventory, current opening, grooming, access permission or navigation. The snapshot time is the canonical OSM API HTTP response Date, not a replication timestamp. Unconfirmed: a current edition and lawful remote preview of the operator piste artwork have not been verified; that artwork is omitted from this independent map.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Agree the suitable initiation area and lesson meeting point with staff.
Carpet and short surface-lift scope; no pedestrian or sled access to ski pistes.
Access: Confirm the signed open connection and appropriate complete return before boarding.
Managed alpine terrain of differing local grades; mapped ways do not prove current opening.
Use the operator’s ski-base coordinates on EN339, rather than its hotel coordinates. Confirm parking, fitting and the lesson meeting point before travel. Cântaro and Covão are practice-area references, not permission for pedestrian access.
The independent map retains Cântaro, Covão, Lagoa and Torre as four source-reconciled passenger alignments. Choose signed open pistes suitable for your ability and confirm transfers with staff; natural-piste, snowpark and sled inventories are not mapped as a connected route.
Unconfirmed: each final boarding, permitted download, spring or holiday equipment deadline and complete assisted return are not established. Agree the whole suitable return with staff before boarding, then allow time for equipment and the onward road journey.
01 / FIELD OVERVIEW
Plan the EN339 arrival, online purchase, separate reservations and complete return. The practical guide keeps conditional opening, old status reports, mixed piste counts and conflicting age, vertical and timing details visible.

Serra da Estrela’s managed alpine ski area is near Torre, on the EN339 in the municipality of Seia. This guide covers its signed ski and snowboard pistes, with a practice area and the Torre chair alignment. It does not combine the wider natural park, off-piste mountain itineraries, separate sledding areas or synthetic facilities elsewhere into one ski network. The operator’s FAQ expressly says this area has snowmaking, not synthetic pistes.
The operator lists 11 marked pistes and connections, nine natural pistes and three snowpark lines. Its headline total of 23 combines those categories and must not be read as 23 ordinary marked alpine pistes. The marked list ranges from Muito fácil at Covão, Cântaro and Grifo through Fácil at Vale and Loriga to Difícil at Lagoa, Estádio, Viriato and Estrela, with Torre labelled Muito difícil. These are local source descriptions; no universal colour conversion is supplied.
Conflicting sources: the slope index states 137 m of skiable vertical between 1,988 m and 1,851 m, while its Torre chair and Loriga row each state 146 m; the short Lagoa–Covão connection also carries a 146 m figure. These differently scoped or inconsistent numbers are retained as source limitations, not a verified measurement. An advertised snowmaking capability is also conditional on weather, not a season-length guarantee.
Historical: JC Ferreira - Fotografia’s genuine March 2024 photograph shows the Torre ski-area landscape. It does not establish present snow, operating lifts, road access or a safe route. Conflicting sources: the Commons summary gives 5 March 2024 and the embedded camera metadata gives 6 March; only the month is used here. Original JPEG bytes are retained, with responsive display crops and no retouching.
The operator names Tapete Cântaro, Telecadeira Torre, Teleski Covão and Teleski Lagoa. Its table describes a four-seat Torre chair, a practice carpet and two surface lifts. The independent community map reconciles those four alignments, without treating mapped line segments as an inventory or promising that a passenger can use every lift on any particular day. Read each posted boarding rule and ask staff for assistance with the lift type before joining.
Unconfirmed: the 2026/27 FAQ calls 12 December a symbolic opening date and makes actual opening conditional on sufficient natural or produced snow. It does not establish a confirmed opening boundary, a closing date or skiing today. Historical: the visible closed, zero-of-23 and zero-of-four report is explicitly dated 13 April 2026 at 07:00; it cannot establish a November closure or current availability.
The contact page publishes ordinary piste hours of 09:00–16:30, with spring hours of 08:00–15:30; the FAQ specifies the spring change from 1 April. It describes normal rental return by 17:00 after the ordinary 16:30 lift closure. The contact page separately lists 15:00 closing on 24 and 31 December and 10:00 opening on 25 December and 1 January. These undated recurring details remain subject to the actual day’s weather and instructions.
Unconfirmed: each lift’s final boarding, permitted passenger download, the spring or holiday equipment-return deadline and a complete suitable return to the base are not established. Confirm the full return before boarding, allow time to return rented equipment, and do not assume an ordinary closing hour guarantees a safe descent. The community map supplies orientation rather than a route or evacuation plan.
The operator gives the ski base as Estrada Nacional 339 and publishes the ski-area coordinates 40°19′50.24″ N, 7°36′54.11″ W. The location pin uses that reference. Its contact page also gives coordinates for hotels; those are separate destinations and must not replace the ski-base meeting point. Agree where to collect equipment and meet the lesson before travelling.
The operator’s access page directs visitors to Infraestruturas de Portugal for road information. Its FAQ recommends carrying snow chains because snow or ice may affect the approach. Check the current road authority notices, weather and signed local controls close to departure, and obey restrictions even when a booking or a snow photograph suggests a ski day. Published drive-time estimates are not winter journey guarantees.
Unconfirmed: a current ski shuttle or scheduled public-transport service to the base, a suitable last return, parking prices and space availability are not established. Arrange both directions independently and confirm the day’s parking instructions. No road-opening observation or public-transport connection is inferred from the operator’s general access wrapper.
Unconfirmed: step-free arrival, accessible parking and toilets, adaptive equipment, lift assistance and a complete assisted return are not established. Discuss the whole trip and individual needs directly with the operator before purchasing; a map pin, roadside building or lift line does not verify accessibility.
The checked FAQ lists daily passes at €30 for adults and €20 for children, and equipment-plus-pass packs at €60 and €50 respectively. A 55-minute group lesson is listed at €55 per person and is a separate purchase. These are published source prices checked on 2 November 2026, not a live booking quote or an index.ski offer. Unconfirmed: the precise child-price age boundary, current availability and the final applicable 2026/27 checkout total are not established.
The operator says sales are online or through its app, with no on-site sales. The pass covers access to open pistes and mechanical lifts and advertises accident insurance; a pass-only purchase excludes equipment and lessons. The pack includes ski or snowboard equipment and a helmet, but excludes clothing, accessories and tuition. Unconfirmed: the insurance limits, exclusions and suitability for an individual user have not been established; read the applicable cover rather than treating the word insurance as comprehensive protection.
Buying is not the same as reserving a day. The regulations and FAQ require a separate equipment/pass reservation by email, normally from two weeks ahead until 09:00 on the preceding day, with the invoice or QR details, date, participants and expected arrival. Lesson availability must be checked before purchase; the school requests ages, discipline, ability, language and preferred time, then sends the booking procedure. Lesson bookings are normally requested one to two weeks ahead with a 48-hour final deadline, subject to availability. Download the QR codes before travelling.
Historical: the refund-policy text still contains a 2023/2024 page marker and the lesson conditions retain pandemic-era wording. They describe two-season service validity, restrictive refund provisions and a 72-hour lesson-cancellation process; these do not independently establish every condition for a new 2026/27 purchase. Unconfirmed: the complete current cancellation, expiry and refund terms for the exact product are not established. Read and retain the current checkout conditions before paying; snow, road closure, capacity or a purchase alone does not guarantee use on the chosen date.
The published regulations restrict the ski pistes to skiers and snowboarders with a pass and suitable equipment, with admission from age four. They exclude pedestrians, sleds, inflatables and other sliding devices from the pistes. The separate sled area near Torre is not part of this guide’s ski geometry. Respect barriers, closed-piste signs, marked boundaries, queues and staff instructions, and control speed around beginners.
Conflicting sources: the regulations and shop wording require helmets for users younger than 12, while the FAQ equipment answer says children up to age 12. The exact treatment of a 12-year-old is not reconciled. Use a correctly fitted helmet at every age and confirm the binding local requirement with staff. The snowpark recommendation does not authorize entry, establish feature inspection or replace an ability assessment; snowpark lines are omitted from this independent map.
The operator allows at most two accompanying adults to the main building when a minor practises. Non-skiing companions may briefly accompany a child to the initiation area but must leave the piste; guardians retain responsibility. Staff assistance with mechanical lifts is separate from ski or snowboard instruction. Beginners should book appropriate tuition rather than assuming lift staff provide coaching.
Unconfirmed: a current patrol timetable, exact on-mountain emergency contact, evacuation arrangements, permitted uphill use and any out-of-hours access are not established. Ask staff for the incident procedure before setting out and give the signed piste/lift reference and exact location when requesting help. No touring, freeride, out-of-hours route or current snow-safety assessment is supplied. Weather, visibility, surface conditions and posted instructions take precedence over the archive image and map.
The school offers shared group lessons by age and ability, rather than private tuition: its published groups are ages 4–7 with at most two children, ages 8–11 with at most four, and the older group with at most five. Each lesson lasts 55 minutes and covers one discipline. Reserve the appropriate age, language and ability group; a six-year-old and an adult cannot assume a joint lesson.
Conflicting sources: the school excludes an age gap greater than three years when a child is younger than eight, while the FAQ parent-and-child answer uses younger than nine. The school lists the older group as +12 without fully explaining the exact age-12 boundary. Confirm the correct group before buying. The school and FAQ allow arrival 30 minutes before the first 09:30 lesson, while the general lesson conditions require one hour; agree the applicable collection and meeting time, allowing the longer margin until clarified.
The FAQ says ski rental includes boots, skis, poles and a helmet; snowboard rental includes boots, a board and a helmet. Clothing and accessories are not rented. Bring suitable waterproof layers, gloves, eye and sun protection and spare dry clothing, and arrange fitting and return at the base. Rental equipment must stay within the resort enclosure; do not take it to the separate sled area or another mountain destination.
The operator publishes estancia@turistrela.pt and +351 275 094 779, describing the telephone as automated general information. The contact page lists email response hours of 08:00–16:00, while the school’s group-enquiry text mentions 09:00–17:00; neither is an emergency-response guarantee. Confirm booked services, current road/piste operation and any assistance needs directly. Unconfirmed: same-day restaurant hours, current equipment sizes and complete assisted-service availability are not established.
Selected historical name and local-grade references only. The coverage note explains the unavailable current official plan. This list establishes neither the full inventory nor current opening or access.
