052MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore the independent community map and practical starting bases. Read the coverage limits and check current opening and access with the operator.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
Unconfirmed: the operator map page is linked separately, but a current artwork edition and lawful inline preview have not been verified; no operator artwork is reproduced in this guide. Independently scoped community geometry shows managed alpine corridors and nine community-numbered surface-lift alignments. The unidentified advanced southern corridor, wakeboard tow, Nordic, park, bordercross and freeride terrain are omitted. Generic community names and grades do not establish operator aliases or local colours and remain grey. No operator-artwork comparison, complete resort inventory, live opening, access permission, guaranteed connection or navigation is claimed.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Arrange the suitable learning area and meeting point with the instructor before using a tow.
Operator describes a separate beginner hill for first-time skiers and snowboarders.
Access: Ask staff which marked descent and connection suit your ability and return toward the base.
Operator describes five main-slope runs and gentler Flat, sixth and Troll runs; no universal grades or current opening inferred.
Use the operator’s 57.00146, 23.20794 reference and signed approach near Milzkalne, then confirm cashier, rental and parking. Lessons meet by the decorated tree between rental and café; reconfirm your booking. The Riga company address is separate.
The operator separates a beginner hill from main slopes and recommends Flat, sixth and Troll runs for gentler skiing. Ask staff which marked connection is open and suits your ability; community numbers and generic names are not verified operator aliases.
Confirm a suitable open descent toward your starting side, the final tow service and equipment-return deadline before riding up. Clear designated exits promptly. Do not use Nordic tracks, summer paths or tow lanes as alpine shortcuts; downhill lift transport is not promised.

Milzkalns alpine ski guide: independent map, learning and main-slope orientation, Tukums arrival, rental, lessons and sourced winter limitations.
Beginner hill and managed main slopes
Ski base separate from Nordic and wakeboard terrain
Independent scoped ODbL map
Milzkalns is a managed alpine ski and snowboard area near Milzkalne in Latvia’s Tukums Municipality. The operator advertises 11 runs up to 320 metres long, a separate beginner hill and five runs on the main slope. These are attributed published descriptions, not a surveyed present-day inventory. This guide covers managed alpine terrain; the separately advertised Nordic trail, snowpark, bordercross, freeride and summer wakeboard facilities are outside its independent map scope.
The operator recommends the Flat Run, sixth run and Troll Run for quieter skiing and describes the Troll Run as gentle. Start with instruction on the beginner hill if you cannot yet stop, turn and use a tow confidently. Choose the actual marked open terrain with staff; descriptive names and generic community difficulty tags do not establish local piste colours or suitable conditions.
Historical: Guntars Mednis’s genuine photograph was taken at Milzkalns on 10 October 2015. The grass slopes, trees and surface-tow equipment show autumn landscape context only; they do not establish current lift footprints, snow or skiing availability.
The published descriptions identify surface uplift using T-bars, platter-style lifts and a rope tow. The local rules require first-time users to ask lift staff for help, board and leave only at designated places, travel straight in the tow track and clear the exit promptly. Before ascending, identify a descent that suits your ability and returns toward the cashier and rental side; a mapped lift line does not promise downhill passenger transport.
Conflicting sources: both language versions advertise nine lifts, but the Latvian breakdown is three T-bars, five platter lifts and one rope tow, while the English breakdown lists three, four and one, which totals eight. The nine numbered community alignments are retained as community map references only; they do not resolve the operator’s present installation inventory or exact identities.
Unconfirmed: exact 2026/27 ski-season boundaries, present skiing availability, future daily hours and the last usable lift service have not been established. At the source check the operator said it was waiting for the new winter season and weekday hours were blank; the linked ticket platform also left opened-slope and opened-lift fields blank. Instructor telephone hours are not ski-lift hours.
Unconfirmed: exact open links between the beginner, main and gentler terrain are not verified. Ask staff for a suitable authorised connection and return before starting; do not use Nordic tracks, tow lanes, closed slopes or summer paths as alpine shortcuts.
The operator places the ski base at Dižkalni, Smārde parish, Tukums Municipality, LV-3148, and publishes 57.00146, 23.20794 as its directions reference. This is the Milzkalns base, not the company’s Mūkusalas iela legal address in Riga. Confirm the cashier, equipment collection and actual parking entrance before travelling; the point is an orientation reference rather than a surveyed accessible transfer.
From Riga, the operator describes the A10 toward Ventspils, a turn toward Smārde, crossing the railway, a left at the T-junction toward Tukums and then signed turns near Milzkalne onto an unpaved final approach. Follow current traffic signs and road conditions rather than treating the published approximate distances as turn-by-turn navigation.
Unconfirmed: a dated winter bus or shuttle service, parking charges and capacity, step-free access, accessible toilets and individual lift assistance have not been verified. Arrange both travel legs and any assistance directly, allowing time for the unpaved winter approach, equipment fitting and a booked lesson.
The operator links to SkipassBaltics for tickets. At the source check, that Milzkalns page displayed standard one-, two-, three- and four-hour tickets at EUR 14, 16, 20 and 24, with EUR 8, 10, 12 and 14 in its reduced columns. These are the displayed amounts on 30 October 2026, with no verified 2026/27 validity period. Confirm the applicable category, session, available terrain, time activation and final checkout fees before buying; equipment and lessons need separate arrangements.
Conflicting sources: the ticket platform labels its standard category ages 12 and above while also offering a children-up-to-15/retired category, leaving an age overlap. Its disabled category is separately shown at the reduced amounts. Do not choose an eligibility interpretation from these labels; confirm the applicable ticket and required proof with the operator or seller.
The currently published usage rules say that a lost pass is not replaced and that a valid pass is not exchanged for cash merely because snow or weather no longer suits the visitor. The Latvian rules also mention forfeiting a deposit for a visibly damaged ticket. Read the actual seller’s purchase and cancellation terms before paying.
Unconfirmed: a complete current tariff, card or deposit charges, refund exceptions, online booking conditions and the final 2026/27 season scope have not been established. The menu-linked English rates page returned HTTP 404 at the check; this does not make an older indexed tariff current.
The operator’s published rules require a valid pass or express permission and serviceable alpine skis or a snowboard. Under-twelves need direct adult supervision. The rules prohibit sledges, cross-country skis, animals, intoxicated use and ordinary walking within the alpine descent and tow areas. A snowboard retention strap is required. Neither this guide nor community geometry grants uphill, touring, off-piste or closed-terrain access.
Control speed for your ability, snow and visibility, allow space for people below, and do not cross tow tracks. Inspect conditions before each descent. The English rules explicitly prohibit entering terrain occupied by grooming or service vehicles even if a lift operates. Report every accident immediately to slope staff and help the injured; ask staff in advance how to summon assistance and where to meet them.
Conflicting sources: the English usage text contains a snowboard-park clause requiring users to be over sixteen and wear helmets, while the Latvian alpine-use text does not contain the matching park clause. Both pages lack a verified edition date. The separate park description says features change during the season. Confirm current park boundaries and eligibility with staff; no park, bordercross or freeride geometry is supplied here.
Unconfirmed: current general helmet requirements, park-specific age rules and the precise on-site rescue arrangement have not been verified. Wear a suitable helmet, follow the stricter actual posted instruction and stay within terrain authorised for your ability.
The operator lists alpine ski and snowboard hire, helmets, goggles and clothing, plus edge, base and wax servicing. Its stock and brand lists are undated, so arrange the correct sizes and fitting rather than assuming availability. The Latvian rental agreement requires checking and reporting defects on collection, returning equipment clean by the agreed deadline and paying for overdue time; early return does not automatically reduce the agreed hire charge.
For ski or snowboard instruction, the operator gives +371 26222999 and its linked online booking service. It recommends arriving 30 minutes early if hiring equipment and identifies the lesson meeting point outside by the decorated tree between the rental and café buildings. Beginners aged six and under are taught individually; being more than ten minutes late without warning can lead to cancellation. Confirm the current meeting point and the booked lesson details.
The general information and hotel line is +371 26222333 and the operator publishes info@milzkalns.lv. It describes Milžu krogs café and a slopeside hotel with different room and bathroom types. The separate Nordic page describes a 600-metre illuminated classic/skating trail and its own access offer; it is not an alpine run, a mapped alpine return or proof of today’s grooming.
Unconfirmed: current rental stock and prices, lesson availability and language, workshop turnaround, café and hotel opening, and adapted instruction or assistance need direct confirmation. Undated stock totals, room counts and service descriptions are not live availability.
Selected historical name and local-grade references only. The coverage note explains the unavailable current official plan. This list establishes neither the full inventory nor current opening or access.
