Lower station and main Run 1
Access: Road approach south of Chepelare, separate from Pamporovo.
The lower descent can be unusable even when upper terrain is served; confirm the actual return.

137MAPS / UNDERSTAND THE AREA
Explore mapped pistes and lifts, compare the official plans and choose the right starting base. Check current opening separately.
Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.
Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.
Independent community map of the identified Mechi Chal chairlift, Run 1, Bypasses 1A/1B and Run 2. Uncategorised Routes 3/4/4A/5/7, freeride, unnamed and unidentified ways and the separate Pamporovo terrain are excluded. The upper tow is not mapped because no independently verified matching geometry was found. OSM ways are segments, not an operator piste inventory; generic difficulty stays grey without a confirmed local colour mapping. Snapshot time is the canonical OSM API HTTP response Date, not an Overpass replication timestamp. Unconfirmed: the operator’s Mechi Chal page has a Map tab with an image control, but its artwork edition, current managed coverage and reproduction or remote-preview rights are unverified. No operator map artwork is copied or embedded. This map supplies planning context without navigation, current-operation, avalanche or complete-return guarantees.
HOW THE AREA CONNECTS
Access: Road approach south of Chepelare, separate from Pamporovo.
The lower descent can be unusable even when upper terrain is served; confirm the actual return.
Access: Operator-described middle station at 1,525 m, with a separate upper mini drag.
Confirm exact open managed slopes and individual download or final-boarding arrangements.
Use the base south of Chepelare, close to the Asenovgrad–Smolyan road. Pamporovo’s Malina and Tourist Center are separate shuttle stops, not adjoining lift bases.
The operator describes a 1,525 m middle station for upper-area access when the lower descent is unusable. Confirm the exact open slopes and upper tow; uncategorised routes are excluded.
Unconfirmed: a complete ski descent to the lower station, chairlift download arrangements, the final boarding at the middle station and the last connection to your accommodation are not established. Confirm every required segment and the actual final return with staff before going up.
01 / FIELD OVERVIEW
Plan the correct road base, upper-area access and complete return. This independent guide separates managed pistes from uncategorised routes, keeps Pamporovo as a separate ski area and clearly labels historical schedules and unconfirmed current skiing.

Mechi Chal is the alpine ski area south of Chepelare in Bulgaria’s Rhodope Mountains. It has its own base below the 1,873 m peak, separate from the Snezhanka slopes at Pamporovo. A shared lift pass and a road shuttle do not make a continuous lift-served ski connection between the two areas.
The current operator slope tab identifies Run 1, Bypass 1A, Bypass 1B and Run 2. Its descriptive inventory uses red for Run 1, blue for 1A, a mixed blue-red description for 1B and green for Run 2. Follow the actual signed local grade and choose suitable open terrain; these descriptions are not universal ability conversions.
Conflicting sources: the operator introduction calls the main run 3,000 m, its detailed table gives Run 1 as 3,250 m, and the historical 2024/25 terms describe a 2.930 km red run. These are different published measurements, not a reconciled current surveyed length.
The operator explicitly says Routes 3, 4, 4A, 5 and 7 are not categorised and lack artificial snowmaking. They are omitted from this managed-piste guide and independent map, together with freeride, unnamed or unidentified community ways. Their appearance on an old plan is not evidence of patrol, grooming, current access or a safe alternative return.
Conflicting sources: the area page calls Run 3 blue in its inventory but red in a future snowmaking paragraph, and describes Run 4 as both green and green-blue. Those uncategorised routes are outside this managed-piste map; no grade or safe public access is inferred.
Historical: Izvora’s 27 July 2012 photograph shows the Mechi Chal chairlift through a forested summer landscape. It does not establish current snow, lift operation or access. The original photograph is unchanged; responsive display crops retain attribution and CC BY-SA 4.0.
The operator lists a four-seat Mechi Chal chairlift, 2,700 m long with 717 m vertical difference, and a separate upper mini drag. Its introduction places the base at 1,155 m and the middle station at 1,525 m. The middle station can serve the upper area when the lower descent is unusable; it is not proof that a complete valley run is available.
Conflicting sources: the area introduction describes a roughly 200 m upper tow, while the lift table gives the Mechi Chal mini drag as 150 m. Its present layout, operating schedule and availability require a direct check.
Conflicting sources: the current area page lists ticket-office hours 08:30–16:30 and first/last winter rides at 08:45/16:30, while the historical 2024/25 terms use 08:30–16:30 for the area and lift. These are published references, not confirmed daily operation or final boarding for your journey.
Unconfirmed: a complete ski descent to the lower station, chairlift download arrangements, the final boarding at the middle station and the last connection to your accommodation are not established. Confirm every required segment and the actual final return with staff before going up.
Unconfirmed: exact 2026/27 opening and closing dates and current public skiing at Mechi Chal are not established. The October 2026 pass offer expressly includes Chepelare only whenever it is open; a pass sale or the separate Pamporovo season does not establish Mechi Chal operation.
The operator describes the base approach about one kilometre south of the last houses of Chepelare, roughly 50 m from the main Asenovgrad–Smolyan road. Several parking areas are described near the lower station, with another parking area opposite before the turnoff. Use current signs and road conditions; the approximate pin marks the chairlift base rather than a reserved parking entrance.
The described Pamporovo transfer starts at Ski Center 2 Malina, calls at Ski Center 1 Tourist Center and reaches the Mechi Chal lower station. Plan it as road transport between separate ski areas, with its own boarding and return constraints. The operator describes the shuttle benefit for an eligible Pamporovo pass; confirm your exact entitlement and the day’s actual service.
Historical: the undated operator-linked shuttle sheet lists Malina 09:00, Tourist Center 09:10 and Mechi Chal 09:30, with return departure from Mechi Chal at 16:30. Its 2026/27 validity is unconfirmed; the current area page directs visitors to ticket offices or 0700 17 702 for departure and return times.
Unconfirmed: step-free access, adapted equipment, assisted chairlift boarding, parking charges and an accessible complete return have not been established. Confirm the specific requirements and arrangements before booking.
The operator’s 15 October 2026 notice offers Select and season passes for the coming winter, with sales at preferential rates until 15 November. It explicitly says a Pamporovo ski-area pass includes skiing in Chepelare whenever Chepelare is open. It does not confirm current Mechi Chal operation, every pass variant or free public transport outside the stated ski transfer.
Historical: the 2024/25 Mechi Chal terms distinguish a local chairlift/upper-tow pass from a Pamporovo ski-area pass. Do not assume the local product gives reciprocal access to Pamporovo, that a pedestrian return ticket is a ski pass or that a discounted product covers every service.
Unconfirmed: the Mechi Chal Prices tab is empty and no current standalone Chepelare tariff, refund conditions, card charge or exact age eligibility is established. Confirm the selected date, product, passenger or skier use and final total through the official operator before purchase.
Historical: the same terms distinguish included mountain-rescue arrangements from individual accident, medical or repatriation insurance. Confirm the applicable current cover and exclusions for your actual activity rather than treating a lift pass as comprehensive insurance.
Use only signed open managed pistes suited to your ability. Ask staff whether the lower run is usable, whether the middle station is the only public starting point and how to get back before committing to the chairlift. Neither a piste colour, the community map nor the presence of a chairlift guarantees an open or suitable complete descent.
Historical: the posted 2024/25 rules prohibit skiing outside operating hours and describe temporary closures for snow, weather, avalanche danger, maintenance, rescue, competitions or training. They direct visitors to the lower-station information board, staff and patrol, including posted final-admission and medical/rescue information. Follow current local notices; do not enter closed terrain or grooming operations.
The operator’s uncategorised Routes 3, 4, 4A, 5 and 7 remain outside this guide. No off-piste, touring, uphill, after-hours or substitute valley itinerary is supplied. The map does not establish snow stability, rescue coverage or permission to cross a closed section.
Unconfirmed: a complete ski descent to the lower station, chairlift download arrangements, the final boarding at the middle station and the last connection to your accommodation are not established. Confirm every required segment and the actual final return with staff before going up.
The area page describes rental shops at the lower station and dining near the base and summit. The rental tab says Pamporovo AD has no own Mechi Chal depot; equipment for organised groups or full packages can be brought here by prior arrangement. A rental collected in Pamporovo needs a transport and return plan rather than an assumed on-site exchange.
Historical: the linked ski-school register is labelled winter 2025/26. The area page describes three local schools and five base-area rental shops, while Pamporovo AD says it has no own rental depot here. Current providers, availability, meeting point and individual assistance must be arranged directly.
The operator contact page provides the webshop, ski-school and equipment enquiry channel; the area page gives 0700 17 702 for current information. Arrange your lesson, equipment sizes, collection location, return deadline and required assistance with the actual provider. No form submission or private permission is needed for this independently sourced guide.
Unconfirmed: the operator’s official social accounts are checked separately, but no dated notice establishing current Mechi Chal skiing, a complete return or a 2026/27 shuttle schedule has been verified.
Selected source-checked references only. Use the complete official plan for the network; this list is not the resort’s total piste count or live opening report.
