Colours show the published skiing status or confirmed operating calendar, not whether every lift is running. Check the operator before travel.

Confirmed dates change colours automatically in the place’s local time. Tentative dates, conflicting reports and expired checks remain black.

Unconfirmed: the operator map page is linked separately, but a current artwork edition and lawful inline preview have not been verified; no operator artwork is reproduced in this guide. The independent map covers available managed downhill centrelines and passenger alignments from Crans, Montana/Arnouva and Barzettes to Cry d’Er, Violettes, Plaine Morte and eastern sectors. It excludes military/technical lines, abandoned objects, piste-area polygons, explicit freeride/backcountry terrain, uncertain peripheral variants and separate town learning lifts. Community names and references may be older or conflict with current operator numbers; generic grades remain grey. Geometry does not establish the full inventory, current skiing, race access, safe connections or navigation.

HOW THE AREA CONNECTS

Understand the sectors.

01

Crans and Cry d’Er

Access: Crans–Cry d’Er through the Merbé corridor

Choose a suitable marked open return to the western base.

02

Montana, Arnouva and central links

Access: Montana/Signal–Arnouva and Cry d’Er connections

Confirm the lesson meeting point and championship diversions.

03

Violettes, Plaine Morte and eastern terrain

Access: Barzettes–Violettes and separately checked upper links

Check wind, ticket scope, ability and the entire return before going higher or east.

01

Choose one of the three main bases

The pin marks the lower Crans–Cry d’Er approach. Montana/Signal and Barzettes/Violettes are different departures; confirm parking or the Sierre-to-lift transfer and the actual lesson/equipment meeting point.

02

Check the signed sector connection

Cry d’Er, Arnouva, Violettes and the upper Plaine Morte/eastern terrain need separate checks. The operator announces championship diversions under Nationale and via Col du Pochet; obey actual closures and select a suitable route.

03

Confirm the complete return before going higher

Ask staff for the last suitable open descent or permitted download to your chosen base, then verify a separate bus/funicular connection. Published season dates and retained shuttle hours do not guarantee the return.

Terrain, sectors and local references

Crans-Montana’s managed alpine area rises from the Haut-Plateau towards Cry d’Er, Les Violettes and Plaine Morte. This guide covers the connected downhill area; Nordic tracks, the golf-course learning area, touring itineraries and the separate World Championships require their own access and safety arrangements.

The regional tourism source describes a high plateau to roughly 3,000 m, with learning areas and more demanding terrain. Choose the signed open sector for your ability rather than using the high-altitude destination or a long named descent as evidence of an easy return. Its reported 58 slopes and 141.1 km are source inventory figures, not independently measured totals or the independent map’s way count.

Conflicting sources: the operator’s championship notice identifies Mont-Lachaux as run 6 and Nationale as 12, while community geometry retains Mont Lachaux as 12b and older names across several segments. The independent map preserves community labels without equating those references to the operator’s current inventory or assigning colours from them. Follow current local signs.

Historical: PhilippeA photographed this snowy Crans-Montana mountain landscape on 16 March 2019. The genuine original is unchanged; responsive display crops use CC BY-SA 4.0. This archive context does not establish present snow, installations, access or championship arrangements.

Lifts, season plan and the complete return

The three main access corridors are Crans–Cry d’Er, Montana–Arnouva and Barzettes–Violettes. Community passenger alignments also show the upper Plaine Morte funitel, Bellalui, Nationale Express, Cabane de Bois, Toula and La Tsa sectors. A mapped installation is an orientation reference, not a working lift, boarding guarantee or independent confirmation of capacity.

The operator’s 2026/27 plan lists 19 December 2026–4 April 2027, with a possible partial opening from 28 November if snow permits and a weather-dependent end. All dates remain conditional. Its retained October sightseeing and bike-park notices do not establish skiing availability.

Unconfirmed: current skiing, individual winter lift hours, last skiable links, permitted equipment download and a complete suitable return to the chosen base have not been established. The checked facilities page exposes a status legend without a usable dated lift-by-lift result. Ask staff about the entire return before leaving a sector, especially before going to Plaine Morte or across to Aminona.

For the championships, the operator reserves Mont-Lachaux and Nationale from 25 January through 15 February 2027 and says Bellalui may close intermittently for training. It describes connections between Cry d’Er and Violettes through the tunnels below Nationale and via Col du Pochet. These are announced future arrangements subject to local signs, conditions and staff directions; a diversion is not a promise of beginner suitability.

Arrival, bases and ground transport

By road, the operator directs arrivals from the A9 at Sierre towards Crans-Montana. Choose the correct base before setting off: Crans–Cry d’Er, Montana/Signal or Barzettes/Violettes are distinct starting points. The guide pin is a community-mapped planning reference at the lower Crans–Cry d’Er terminal, not a reserved parking space or an accessible entrance.

Rail arrivals normally connect at Sierre to the SMC funicular or a bus, with a separate local transfer to the lift. The operator suggests Ycoor for the Signal approach and describes free resort shuttles. Use the actual SBB/SMC journey planner for the final lift approach and the return to the railway; a regional transport ticket and a ski ticket have different scopes.

The tourism authority’s 23 October 2026 notice announces a funicular interruption on 2–6 November 2026. It says regular bus lines 421 and 422 provide transport, with additional 422 services planned; the upper ticket office and luggage-shipping service close during the interruption. Confirm an actual connection rather than applying the normal funicular description to those dates.

Historical: the tourism transport page retains a Snow’n’Rail offer dated 19 December 2025–6 April 2026. The operator’s undated shuttle frequency and 07:05–19:37 span, and its indicative parking feed with an impossible negative vacancy figure, do not establish the winter 2026/27 timetable or an available parking space. Current charges, accessible transfer and the last return remain to be checked for the travel date.

Ski tickets, conditions and spectator admission

Buy the product for the actual date and user category through the operator’s official shop. The checked winter page describes Pass One, a resident-only Pass One Crans-Montana and second-home-owner Pass One R2; their eligibility rules differ. A Pass One+ adds Fastlane access. Confirm the precise pass conditions and facilities included before payment.

The actual operator contract distinguishes children 6–15, youth 16–20 and adults from 21, and requires proof for concessions. Children aged 0–5 receive the matching-duration entitlement when accompanied by an eligible adult parent. The contract lists a CHF 5 reusable Keycard and says it is not refundable; check the live checkout for the final product and card charges.

The contract says personal passes cannot be transferred, validated online orders cannot be cancelled, and unused tickets or weather/force-majeure shutdowns do not receive a standard operator refund. Optional insurance has separate terms and must be bought with the ticket; it is not a guarantee of reimbursement. Read the current contract and selected insurance before committing.

Unconfirmed: a current date-specific daily ski fare and complete winter entitlement have not been verified from the public shop shell. No sample price, guaranteed refund, spectator access or championship transport entitlement is inferred. A ski pass does not itself grant admission to controlled championship zones; a spectator-zone ticket does not itself include ski-lift travel. Check both products for the intended visit.

Safety, closures and permitted terrain

Stay on marked open terrain within your ability, obey closures and staff instructions, and plan a safe return before boarding. Snow, wind and avalanche-control work can change access; neither OSM geometry, future season dates nor archive photographs establish a safe open piste. Do not enter a race, training or closed area because a mapped line passes through it.

The independent map omits military and technical lines, abandoned installations, piste-area polygons and explicitly tagged freeride/backcountry objects. It also omits uncertain peripheral ski-route variants and the separate town learning lifts. That conservative display is not evidence that omitted terrain is open, safe or legally accessible.

The operator contract requires appropriate conduct and compliance with staff orders, and permits exclusion from transport for breaches. Rescue and third-party medical or evacuation costs can be charged to the injured visitor; check adequate winter-sports cover and its exclusions before travel.

Unconfirmed: a current patrol emergency number, grooming/closure schedule, authorised uphill itinerary and any safe off-piste or glacier access have not been established. Obtain the local emergency procedure on arrival; use the appropriate emergency service for an accident. The published general information number is not presented here as a dedicated rescue line.

Equipment, lessons, accessibility and contacts

The operator lists Ski & Ride shops at the main Crans, Montana/Signal and Barzettes bases, plus lockers at those departures. Its rental page retains summer-specific hours and closures, so arrange winter fitting, stock, collection and equipment return directly. A rental-desk closing time does not extend the last lift or bus.

The current tourism partner entry names Crans Montana Ski & Snowboard School, formerly GR Mountain, with a published 28 November 2026–4 April 2027 lesson period. It lists office, Cry d’Er and Arnouva meeting options and quotes tailored prices on request. Confirm the actual group, level, language, meeting point and whether lift travel and equipment are included; a school’s programme does not guarantee skiing.

The lift contract explicitly says access for disabled visitors cannot be guaranteed. Wheelchair or other mobility-aid users are asked to contact the information centre at least 48 hours before arrival so boarding and safety can be assessed. The stated concession is subject to eligibility; it does not establish a step-free journey or suitable skiing equipment.

The operator publishes +41 848 22 10 12 and hello@mycma.ch for general information. The school entry gives +41 79 447 78 86 and CM-skischool@mycma.ch. These are source-listed contacts, not tested response channels. Arrange assistance across parking or public transport, boarding, lessons, facilities and the complete return.

Unconfirmed: winter service hours, available lesson places, adapted equipment, accessible toilets and an individually suitable transfer/boarding/return chain have not been verified. Championship spectator accessibility has separate booking conditions; do not substitute that scheme for ski-area assistance.
