01 / EVENT OVERVIEW
What defines this edition.
The main race is advertised as two laps with 560 m of ascent. This is a long-distance skating event requiring suitable fitness and winter preparation. Saturday’s classic races and Sunday’s separate 60 km and shorter entries have different rules; their age bands, start times and series entitlements must not be transferred to this race.
The organiser clarified on 3 November 2026 that the 42 km race has 560 m of ascent, with feeds at 7, 12, 17, 23, 26, 31 and 36 km and the finish. The 2027 rules specify a 12:05 local lap cut-off: competitors must begin the second loop by that time or be stopped and directed to the finish. The rules describe this as 1 hour 55 minutes after the last advertised 10:10 start; 12:05 is the actual clock boundary, not a minimum time or a personal allowance after every start. Unconfirmed: final measured alignment and race-day changes depend on snow, weather and the organiser’s briefing. No organiser map is copied, traced or embedded.
The rules request a valid licence copy and a negative FFS health-questionnaire declaration; section 5.1 also requires competition medical fitness evidenced by a doctor’s certificate or FFS/FIS competitor licence. Conflicting sources: the licence-equivalence wording differs from the later FFS-title requirement. Unconfirmed: individual overseas acceptance, medical-document validity/language and insurance cover require confirmation; a FIS code alone proves none of these.
The organiser clarified on 3 November 2026 that online registration closes 30 minutes before the relevant race. Historical: the PDF retains Saturday 10/Sunday 11 January 09:00 wording, which does not match the actual 9–10 January 2027 edition dates; it is not used as the current deadline. Conflicting sources: the FAQ allows a 20 kg bag while the rules allow 10 kg. Confirm your actual entry cut-off, documents and bag limit; no paper registration is advertised and fragile valuables should stay elsewhere.
The rules state organiser-cancellation refunds of 100% before 15 December 2026, 75% until the preceding evening at 20:00, then 65%, with exclusions and different option treatment. Participant cancellation depends on optional BeTicketing insurance; its stated 80% benefit is conditional. Unconfirmed: final contract, deductions, transfer rights and individual insurance eligibility must be checked before payment. Rules also include broad participant image-use terms.
Historical: Florian Pépellin’s genuine 2 March 2025 photograph shows snowy Bessans from above Lanslebourg-Mont-Cenis. Original JPEG unchanged; responsive display crops under CC BY-SA 4.0. This is host-village context, not the race, its 2027 course or current snow.
Conflicting sources: the 2027 rules admit U20–M12 to 42 km, while the course page says Senior–M12. The actual Njuko 42/21 km product separately specifies 42 km entrants born before 31 December 2008; its broader product restriction concerns the shorter race. Confirm individual age eligibility before payment.

The pin is not the gate.
This is a broad village reference from the Wikimedia Commons Bessans location, not a surveyed course. The organiser names Le Carreley for bib collection. Unconfirmed: the final 2027 start gate, parking approach and step-free entrance are not established by this point; follow the organiser’s final directions.
The organiser directs road arrivals through Modane and Val Cenis via A43 exit 30, D1006 and D902, and lists parking around Bessans. The tourism authority warns that Iseran and Mont Cenis passes close in winter; check road conditions and required winter equipment. Unconfirmed: event-day traffic restrictions, reserved spaces and the final walk to Le Carreley are not established.
The tourism authority identifies Modane rail connections and regional buses; S53 serves Bessans in its winter network. It warns that connections are not automatic. Historical: the reviewed mobility links include older seasonal material. Unconfirmed: 10 January 2027 outward departures, post-race last return, reservations, capacity and accessible transfer are not established. Arrange both directions before travel; a general network description is not a race-day shuttle.
Conflicting sources: the adapted start is 09:50 in the main programme but 09:45 in the rules’ appendix. Unconfirmed: individual adapted eligibility, escort arrangements, step-free bib/finish access, toilets and spectator admission require direct planning with the organiser. A listed adapted line does not establish every person’s access.
