01 / EVENT OVERVIEW

What defines this edition.

An early planning guide separating the confirmed series date from older entry, course and transport information. Times for the 2027 race have not been verified. Falls Creek uses Australia/Melbourne time: Australian Eastern Standard Time, UTC+10:00, on the listed August date.

Cross-country skiing
01
Nordic Bowl and high-plains course

The retained main-race description combines a 26 km first circuit with a 16 km second circuit, using Sun Valley, Langfords and Heathy Spur loops. The linked map shows these areas, the dam wall and drink stations. It is an official planning reference, without a verified 2027 edition label; neither the final route nor its exact race-day distance is confirmed.

02
Read the final briefing, rather than an older cut-off

The linked 2026 briefing has intermediate cut-offs and allows officials to impose further limits for skier and staff safety. These times are not verified for 2027. Follow the final briefing, actual course markings and officials; report retirement so the organisers do not start an unnecessary search.

03
Official map and entry documents have different scopes

The main-race page still labels its fee table 2026, while its printable entry form explicitly covers 24 August 2024. Do not use the old form, course drawing or mixed calendar text as evidence of current registration, eligibility or an approved 2027 route.

FORMATThe main Kangaroo Hoppet is an advertised 42 km cross-country ski marathon based at the Falls Creek Nordic Bowl and extending onto the Bogong High Plains. The organiser describes groomed tracks for skating and classic technique. The Australian Birkebeiner and Joey Hoppet are separate shorter events; their final 2027 programme is not yet verified.

The event welcomes recreational and competitive skiers, but the main race requires endurance and sufficient skiing skill for exposed alpine terrain. Final 2027 eligibility, minimum age, entry conditions and seeded-wave arrangements have not been verified. Obtain the applicable participant agreement before entering; the linked printable form still covers 2024.

The date is listed by Worldloppet and Visit Victoria. A final 2027 organiser timetable, bib collection, shorter-race starts and presentation programme have not been verified. The linked briefing is dated 1 March 2026 and describes 15 August 2026; its 09:30 start is not a confirmed 2027 time.

The 42 km main race, shorter races, race transport and Falls Creek resort entry are separate arrangements. Confirm the exact entry, inclusions and any additional permit or travel booking.. No 2027 fee or closing date is confirmed here. The website retains 2026 fees and a 2024 printable form. Its general terms allow course/start changes and cancellation for safety, with non-refundable entry wording; the refund page describes voluntary-withdrawal and limited Covid-related exceptions. Confirm the applicable 2027 agreement and any distance-change charges directly before payment.

04 / SPECTATOR ACCESS

The pin is not the gate.

Approximate Nordic Bowl reference from Worldloppet’s published start/finish coordinates. The race office is down in Mount Beauty, rather than at this pin. The pin is not a course map or confirmation of race-day vehicle access.

The race starts on snow at the Nordic Bowl; the Hoppet office is at 33 Kiewa Valley Highway in Mount Beauty. The main page describes a 500 m approach from Windy Corner parking, while the 2026 briefing says 800 m. Confirm the actual marked route, walking or ski access and extra time required before travelling.

The organiser describes winter coaches from Melbourne and Albury and race buses from Mount Beauty. No 2027 timetable, fare or seat availability has been verified. Its travel page and Worldloppet also give different indicative Melbourne–Mount Beauty rail/coach costs; use the actual carrier’s dated timetable and booking conditions rather than these retained estimates.

Driving to Falls Creek requires checking current road conditions, snow-chain requirements, parking and resort-entry arrangements. The resort page retains winter 2026 permit conditions and says 2027 season-permit prices and sale dates will follow. A tourism accessibility flag is not a step-free route plan: ask the organiser and Falls Creek about individual parking, transfer, toilets and viewing access. No final 2027 accessible race-arrival plan is verified.
