01 / EVENT OVERVIEW

What defines this edition.

La Diagonela combines a long valley journey with wooded climbs and the village finish in Zuoz. This guide covers the main 55 km classic race, its published waves, practical regional travel and race rules. Historical: organiser pages retain a 2024 countdown and a 20 January 2024 start-change notice. The 2027 date and waves here come from the separately dated 2027 programme and current registration, rather than that retained notice.

Cross-country skiing
01
Nominal route and distinct finish

The organiser describes Pontresina, Celerina and the Traumloipe, St. Moritz, Stazerwald and Val Roseg, then a return through Pontresina toward Samedan airport, S-chanf and Zuoz. The current registration also describes a 55 km Pontresina–Zuoz route. Conflicting sources: the main page’s lead and dated programme finish in Zuoz, but a separate retained sentence says there is a grill at a finish in Pontresina. Do not plan the main-race finish from that sentence.

02
Course changes and practical limits

The guide permits the organiser to change route and distance for adverse conditions. Unconfirmed: a final 2027 alignment, surveyed ascent, intermediate cut-offs and exact course access are not established here. No organiser map artwork is copied or traced; the town point is only for initial planning. Check the final briefing and follow marked tracks and officials.

03
Classic technique, equipment and eligibility

The guide requires classic technique, bans skating on classic and rolled tracks, and refers to FIS equipment rules. Ski changes are prohibited except for replacement of at most one ski after a ski or binding defect. The course must be covered on skis, with a specific marked walking-path exception on the Stazerwald descent; that exception does not permit walking other climbs. Conflicting sources: the main page and registration combine free entry for people born in 2007 or later with a minimum age of 18; the guide’s wider U20 table includes 2007–2010 while repeating the main-race minimum of 18. The youth offer does not waive the minimum age. Confirm the exact birth-date/category application with the organiser before entering.

04
Published support and baggage

The guide names main-race refreshment stops at St. Moritz, Celerina, Bever, Zuoz, S-chanf and the Zuoz finish. It includes on-course waxing support, while the start’s last-minute kick-wax service is paid; arrive with prepared equipment. Saturday baggage goes from the start to Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz, and the guide includes a post-race ski depot and finisher certificate. Unconfirmed: final repair staffing, medical-post locations, dietary provision and exact baggage collection arrangements are not established; several service details remain promised for later publication.

05
Image context and reuse

Historical: dsandrea’s genuine photograph shows the river, snowy banks, trees and mountains at Pontresina on 6 January 2006. It is licensed CC BY 2.0; the accepted high-resolution Commons version was uploaded from Flickr in 2017. Original JPEG bytes are unchanged, with responsive display crops. This is archive host-area context, not La Diagonela, its 2027 course or present snow conditions.

06
Postal-address discrepancy

Conflicting sources: its footer and chip-return rule give Quadratscha 16, 7503 Samedan; current registration and the lost-property paragraph give Quadratscha 18. Confirm the correct postal destination before sending a chip or documents; neither is the start venue.

FORMATThe main 55 km classic race from Pontresina to Zuoz, with separate elite and public waves. The wider 14–17 January programme includes other distances and disciplines; La Saireda, La Pachifica, La Cuorta and La Sfida have separate starts and conditions.

The organiser-linked W Sportsmedia page identifies the 16 January 2027 55 km classic event and requires a user account to register. The guide assigns public blocks using the entrant’s declared expected time and uses gross time from the applicable start signal. No account, personal data, registration or payment was submitted during this review.

Published main-race awards in Zuoz

The programme lists awards in Zuoz village centre; expected elite finishes at 11:28 and 11:58 are estimates, not public-race limits. Conflicting sources: the guide’s 55 km passage-limit section leaves the final cut-off unpublished, while its later rules state a Saturday finish closure at 16:30 with possible jury extension. No guaranteed 2027 final or intermediate cut-off is established; obtain the final instructions before starting.

Main 55 km classic entry, with distinct elite eligibility and public performance blocks. Other weekend races are separate entries. The published regional transport and baggage provisions belong to their stated event/day scope; no national rail ticket, accommodation or unrestricted tourism pass is implied.. At the 31 October check, the linked 2027 registration lists CHF 85 initially, CHF 105 from 1 May 2026, CHF 125 from 1 November, CHF 145 from 1 December and CHF 165 from 15 January 2027. These are dated source tiers, not a locked checkout quote. Conflicting sources: the organiser’s fee panel still names 14 and 15 January 2026 in its late-fee text and describes CHF 165 as on-site, whereas registration dates the CHF 165 tier from 15 January 2027. Check the applicable total before payment. The guide states a next-year transfer for withdrawal by 30 November, at most twice consecutively; after 1 December, a medical certificate gives half the paid fee as next-year credit. Cancellation by the organiser gives half as next-year credit, not a cash-refund promise. Changes or substitute transfers after bib allocation on 1 December can incur CHF 30; replacement places depend on availability. Read the full entry conditions before committing.

04 / SPECTATOR ACCESS

The pin is not the gate.

The organiser’s dated programme places the start at Langlaufzentrum Pontresina and the finish in Zuoz village centre. This broad Pontresina reference uses the OSM municipality label returned by Nominatim, © OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL. Unconfirmed: the exact 2027 start gate, bib entrance and accessible approach are not established by this point. It is not a surveyed entrance, finish location or course map.

The organiser’s arrival page explicitly warns that there are no parking spaces in Pontresina on race day and asks participants to use public transport. For La Diagonela on 16 January 2027, the bib voucher or bib permits outward and return travel with Engadin Bus, Rhätische Bahn, Postauto and Ortsbus Engadin within Zernez–Maloja and Alp Grüm–Spinas. This is a bounded regional event-day entitlement, not travel from anywhere in Switzerland. Unconfirmed: individual departures, train/bus connections, final last returns and any special shuttle are not published in these sources. Plan the complete journey using current operator timetables; an entitlement is not a booked seat or departure.

The programme lists public viewing at Schulhaus Zuoz from 11:00–13:30 and village festivities from 11:30–18:15 on Saturday. Unconfirmed: spectator admission conditions, a continuous step-free journey, accessible toilets/viewing, snow-surface assistance and adapted participation are not established. Contact the organiser and transport providers about the whole journey before booking.
